I also have fitted the outback ideas recovery points, but feel by looking at them the original are probably just as strong (if not stronger?)
Thoughts?
so there is no more need for the outback ideas recovery hooks on those

I've got the newer style of recovery points on mine - am getting the ARB deluxe bar fitted as soon as it arrives and I was just wondering whether the bar interferes or obstructs these factory recovery points.
I know the bar has its own recovery points but I understand they are only suitable for winching not snatching.
I'd just feel better knowing that the factory recovery points were still going to be intact and usable.

Fitted my own recovery points today - thanks to the great instructions on Pradopoint
I picked up a right angle chuck from Bunnings - $13.95 - and it made the job easy. Take it nice and easy with these things - the gears inside are made at the same place they make Toyota diffs. On the second hole I got a bit keen and the drill bit jammed and stripped the gears (I know the sound Drew).
I loosened the top radiator bolts (to give a little more flex) and removed the bottom bolts. I was then able to swing the radiator out of the way - to drill out the holes and to insert the top bolts from the radiator side.
Driver's side
Passenger side
A longer shot
The top bolt on the driver's side has plenty of clearance
But the passenger side is a tighter fit due to the different shape of the radiator at this point. I have installed this one without the washer (for now) as the washer is quite thick and with the washer in place the bolt head touches the radiator. I will be looking at a thinner washer - unless there are any better ideas.
At least now when I get stuck I will have something a bit stronger to snatch from.
Once again - thanks to those you have posted these tips.
Cheers

Although I hear that ARB are now selling an equalizer strap - unsure of the actual difference, or whether it's just a relabelled tree-trunk protector.
