  • Recovery Points

    Hi Everyone

I currently don't have a roo bar on my 2004 Diesel GXL Prado and was looking at fitting some recovery points. I am now not likely going to put a roobar on now.

Has anyone else done this and:

    1. Who did you go through;
    2. Where did they put them; and
    3. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost?

    Regards

    Ash

I have a set of recovery points. They look like this.

I got them for about $50....

There is a guide here to how and where they go. They are easy to fit except for the drilling out of the top hole on the chassis....its a little too small.

I am yet to work out how to get around doing that without removing guards etc.

Thanks. I noticed in the link that it said the radiator was moved in order to pass the bolts through, did you have to do this as well?

Which retailer did you purchase yours via?

I still dont have mine attached fully. I have got them bolted on with the bottom bolt but the top one I can not bolt in place yet as I have to drill out the hole a liitle....this is a bit of a hassle and I am looking for a quick solution.

Therefore I wont be using them till i get the second hole drilled out.

As far as the radiator goes its very simple.....theres 4 bolts holding it on. just unscrew them and swing the bottom of the radiator back a bit....no hassle at all.

            I got them from TJM.

Beauty. There is a TJM outlet here in Bunbury. However I might still check out Opposite Lock and ARB.

              Cheers

Well after having a good think about how I was going to do the top bolts I purchased a right angle drill chuck. Works wonders. I now have the recovery points in place. Glad that one is done. It was a little harder than i expected.....didnt help it was getting dark.

If anyone wants me to I can do another "How To" on the install of recovery points.

I fitted a rear recovery hook also today.

                        One of these.

If you have a look under the passenger side at the rear you will notice a tiedown. I removed that and fitted the new recovery hook. No big issues. Bolts straight into place. No moving anything either.

I had to get different high tensile bolts than the ones that came with the hook though. The thread is slightly different.

Just thought I'd put up a pic of the chuck. It was about $13 from Bunnings.

                            pradogxlv6,

Check ebay as they are sometimes on there under the 4x4 accessories section of cars.
