  • I'll repeat what I posted earlier:

I personally found that extractors increased consumption (on my FJ73 MWB land cruiser)
And my experience is the opposite ... so unless we are comparing apples with apples it is irrelevant.
Many years back a friend was setting up his rally car, the difference between the best and worse extractors was over 40 hp at the wheels on a 2 litre carb engine. So yes poor extractors/headers may reduce performance however good ones will improve performance.
How much difference depends in part on the design good or otherwise of the standard manifolds plus the condition & design of the rest of the exhaust sytem.
Back to beaujangles issue, a 50% increase in consumption indicates something else at fault, since the consumption increase coincided with the fitment of the extractors logically one would expect something has been damaged in fitting or adversely affected by the fitting.
You mentioned fitting new oxygen sensors, is the location the same as the originals?

Good luck and hopefully Toyota will pick up the fault/s causing your fuel consumption

    • Well I may have fixed the problem. I read that a faulty Mass Airflow Sensor can cause the same symptoms as I described, so I changed that and it drove a lot better, no turbo lag. Had the 160k service done and the fuel filter was disgusting. See what happens with mileage.

      • extractors with lpg IGR-FE

        Hi Guys

I am considering fitting extractors and wanted to know if anyone has lpg installed and if there has been any issues with heat cracking the pipes which piggy reported on some other make of cars with lpg/genie extractor fitment.

Any other feedback re: consumption, torque, driveability with auto also appreciated.

        Many thanks, Brett.

          My questions:

Has anyone also replaced the remainder of the exhaust system?
Is it necessary to replace the rest of the exhaust or just extractors?
Any noticeable change to exhaust note?

          Thanks!
I bought Redback shorty headers of ebay for about $350 i think, fitting was $200. I felt like the response was better and slight change of exhaust note (for the better). Since then i've had mate knock up a custom mandrel bent 2 1/4 inch Y piece into single 2 1/2inch system with straight through mufflers - probably lost a bit of low down torque, but gained mid to high end. I had it chipped and dyno tuned which made a big difference. I think if you're doing to do the exhaust, it's not worth it unless you do the whole thing and get chip and tune.

I found no change in fuel consumption after doing the full exhaust, chip and tune... but defiinately more power! See my post with dyno results - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...r&daysprune=-1

From what I've heard the long tube headers are better for torque - If I had my time again I would have bought these http://dougthorleyheaders.com/produc...productID/1066 then done a custom SS system off that.

I removed 2 of my cats, so just running the front 2. With the long tube headers you'd have to cut your old ones off and weld the flange on both ends to re use them.

mate first outta town run on my pacies , kept both cats , second cat opened up to 2 1/2" thro till the back, custom " Y " all new

first good run towing 1 ton , lost low down torque, 2nd gear rolling wind out ( 6 spd man ) up hill windy pass , worse

but other than that , abosolutely smick result .. right foot doesnt go down as far, has a nice wind out
and the punchy spot of the V6 have lowered to about 2700 rpm.. on a steady right pedal ..

4th is nice Mid range, 5th seems better than b4 , at around the 2200 mark .. for pull up the hills

my lose is low down range from 1200 to about 1600 , then it fires up

the pipe is rich so with a bit of cold air soon I may pick up that low area ....

              Cheers Butane

              • Sorry about resurrecting an old thread but I was wondering if anyone has compared the Unequal Length Pacemaker headers with Equal length headers? Like the bolt on Wildcats for example. Im really after more usable increases in the low rpm range. After all this is a 4x4 and not a race car.
