  • Before the engine rebuild/new injectors I was averaging 10.5l/100 in my 08gx d4d auto. After the rebuild and injectors I'm now averaging 11.5l/100, which is a bit of a let down.
    But on the plus side I just towed my Suzuki Sierra behind the prado, while loaded up with camping gear, so all up was quite heavy. Went from Brisbane to janowen hills (near Warwick) via cunninghams gap and returned a fuel average of 13.5l/100, which is pretty impressive.

      2003 LC120 (European Prado) 1KD-FTV 3.0 D4D. All stock including standard transmission. Apparently not one of the VIN numbers that has an injector seating problem but keeping an eye on it anyway....

      • Well after two tanks at 6km/L my fuel consumption was still rubbish so took it back to the mechanic to have a whinge.
        He pulled the injectors out and sent em off to get reconned. Didn't cost a lot but hopefully that will fix it.
        He reckons that doing all the work last month has now highlighted the faulty injectors. Fingers crossed

          Check the maths on that mate. Mine wouldn't even get close to that driving at 100km/hr, never mind 130.

          • delicar, those figures you quoted are pretty good for a 1kz, I have a mate who is currently up in Qld, towing a 21 foot caravan and he's not getting the figures you quoted. Yes I know that his van is heavier than your camper, but he's also got a vehicle that is capable of 8l per 100 km without the van. I don't know many vehicles 4wd or not that would get better than 15 l per 100 km towing a camper fully loaded.
            Common sense isn't that common.....

            • First tank after the engine rebuild. Piston number 4 decided to fail.
              No real difference so far, still averaging about 11- 11.5 L/100. Hopefully will improve as time goes on.
              Baileys injectors, new cylinder head timing belt etc.
              08 VX D4D, Lift, Safari Snorkle, Trailblazer Fridge, Custom Storeage System, BFG, ARB Safari Bar, Wife, Kids, Codan NGT HF Radio, Debt.
              06 100 Series Sahara, Bilteins, Kings, Beaudesert 3", Diff drop, Unichip Q4, Safari Intercooler, EGR delete, 20ft Bushtracker, Codan Envoy more coming.
              Sometimes i wake up Grumpy, most times i leave her sleep.

              • I have had my 2008 D4D since late September 2013. Since then I have done:
                18,000 kms
                Used 2300 litres of fuel some towing the camper - 3 trips.
                @ a cost of $3690
                Averaging 12.80 litres/100 kms
                Best simply return trip to Sydney 9.88/100kms
                Worst during a heavy weekend of off road and 4 wheel driver training 19.04/100kms
                When driving around town - very short trips tend to get between 12-13/100kms.

                Head job and injectors done late August.

                        • First tank after new injectors and de-grud of the manifold and im getting 13lt/100 darwin city driving in the 1KZ. Hoping for around the 12.5's once i hit the hwy. Big improvement

                          • Well just filled her up after a service and getting the manifold cleaned and egr blocked off. Will see how the next tank goes. I would be so happy if I got figures like you Zutta.

                            • I've been getting pretty consistent 11.4 around town since injectors replaced 6500 km ago.
