      Qld Trip

I just got back from taking the family on a trip to the Gold Coast for a week and averaged around 13.5Lt/100km for the trip. This was mainly highway driving but a bit of city cycle whilst up there too. Did 1710km for 230Lts of 98 RON. I have always run 98 in all my cars and the Prado has never had any other fuel in it since new. I read that the Prado engine contol unit takes 2-3 tanks to adjust fully to the higher RON fuels for maximum benefit. The trip to Qld was with a fully laden vehicle with A/C on the whole time so I am pretty happy with these figures. My 6Lt VE Calais averages about the same (until I stick the boot in that is!).

            Middle East fuel consumption

Hi all. I'm new to the forum.

I've kept meticulous fuel consumption records from new and found that:-

The overall average from my 1GR-FE 4-litre is 15.8l/100km.corrected
The trip computer says around 16l/100km.
Typical range is between 15 and 18 l/100km.

It's mostly highway and city driving. Dune bashing pushes the consumption up into the low 20s, as do Dubai's infamous traffic jams. A good long run at 100-120kph can yield as low as 11l/100km.

The lift kit increased consumption by about 6% and fitting 275/65R17 instead of the stock 265/65 tyres also makes it drink a bit more. Checked by GPS the speed and presumably odometer are now accurate instead of over-reading, which might account for this. The same physical distance but fewer wheel revolutions will burn fuel over an apparently smaller distance.

The UAE is very hot most of the year. I run the aircon almost constantly. And the back of the Goatmobile is full of camping and recovery gear. Neither of these will help fuel economy.

For what it's worth, I tried 98RON petrol for several months, having read on LCOOL.org that the decreased consumption more than compensates for the additional cost. My figures indicate that it made no measurable difference , so I went back to the cheaper 95RON.

Petrol is so ridiculously cheap in the UAE (I pay AED6.25/gallon (42 Australian cents a litre)) that fuel cost isn't the big issue. It's tank range!

Just filled with third full (150l) tank of regular unleaded. Not much of a load; mostly just the 'wife of my youth' and self. About one third up and down the Toowoomba range, one third highway @ 105 - 112 and the balance a combination of town driving and exploring national parks (mainly on tar).

Average fuel consumption: almost exactly 14.00L per 100k.

I'm satisfied, but sure can't compete with Pradoxlv6 ... 11.9L per 100k, you'd have to be pleased with that ... my wife's toy peugeot doesn't do much better

Your wife must be a careful driver; maybe she could give mine some pointers - she's a little lead footed hoon

                      Prado 2006 2.7L 4Cylinders Fuel Consumption

I have a 2006 2.4L 4Cylinders 2 Door Prado (Check my Avatar), It's showing me on the screen an avarage fuel consumption of 20 to 23L\100km, Most of my driving is city, keep in mind that the city i live in is full of hills (Not Flat), and my foot is really smooth on the fuel (My RPM barely reaches 3,000) can someone tell me if this is normal, or do i have a poroblem.

                      Cheers!

I am convinced there is something wrong with my vehicle that is affecting it's fuel economy but have not been able to pinpoint anything. Toyota could not identify any problems. Air filter is regulary serviced. Air pressures in the STT's are at 42 PSI for highway travel. Car always runs on PULP, BP Ultimate whenever possible. Yes it is lifted and yes it has roof racks which I know do not help the fuel equation.

In 18 months of ownership travelling around 20,000kms including 1,000kms of sand driving on Fraser Island where I got 22 litres/100km and 450kms of Vic High Country low range where I managed 29 litres/100kms  , I have had an overall average of between 17-18 litres/100kms. This seems 3-5 litres per 100kms more than what everyone else is achieving. Or with todays fuel prices, is an extra $50 to $80 per 1000kms.

I know the obvious suggestion is going to be the way it's driven, however my wife and myself both achieve similar figures. In comparsion, my VE Berlina work vehicle is driven much less conservative but averages around 11.5 litres/100kms and it travels 100kms a day in Sydney peak hour traffic.

Any suggestions beyond updating with a newer D4D.

                              Cheers - Byrnsie

Byrnsie, you prado is much the same as mine, i think it is normal with a few accessories, however i only use normal ulp. My work VE calias get around 13lt 100 ave speed about 40k per hour.

how do you like the berlina, i hate the calias, it rattles, is noisey and compared to the prado it is crap. I cannot wait until goes next march, i think i will get a Kluger for the town/ work car.
