  • Just did 1130km on my first full tank since recently purchasing the vehicle. Used Shell 95 and it took 160L on the refill

That's 14.1L/100km with about 500km of highway, some beach work and the rest city driving.

Sounds about par for the course?!

      • I have been collecting fuel economy data for my V6 since February this year and went through it all last night and came up with some interesting figures.

Over 7,217 km and 1,322 litres trying 91, 95 and 98 grades for at least two consecutive full tanks - I usually run the tanks fairly low and refill to the brim so usually between 100 and 150 litres at a time.

        On 91 Octane I got an average of 18.25 l/100km (3 tanks)
        On 95 Octane I got an average of 18.29 l/100km (7 tanks)
        On 98 Octane I got an average of 19.58 l/100km (2 tanks)

So much for higher octane fuels being more economical.

        • Hi trekrider

Have you seen this this LCOOL article, they suggest you have to do 3,000 - 5000kms for the 4.0L V6 in the 120 series before you notice changes and savings

          http://www.lcool.org/technical/prado...tane_fuel.html

You might have to do 5000km before changes seen

I only use 91 octane, and achieving about 14's around town, recent trip down south on highway 13's and then towing cub CT (about 1tonne) on trip up north exactly 17

          Cheers

            • Yes, interesting read there Kim. I had heard that it could take a lot of kms to see a change but not quite that many.

This doesn't explain the worse fuel economy with higher octane fuel though - I would have thought that running higher octane fuel would start at the same point and gradually get better according to the article.

Just realised what the problem might be - peel the kaka latte club sticker off the back window, heard it creates some drag.....

Always thought with all the modifications/weight we add to the standard Prado is always going to impinge on fuel economy in the long run- just a matter of finding a balance suppose...

I agree - with all the additional weight plus lift, aggressive tyres etc. never going to get soccer mum car fuel consumption. Still doesn't explain it being worse running 98 though.

                        • This last 800km worked out to be 16.35L/100km.

All city & traffic driving including the Ball & Chain driving too.

                          • Finally got around to working mine out. 275.5 km driven, sitting on 110 apart from when going through 8 or so country towns, 28.84 litres used - 91 octane.

10.48L/100. Still on HT tyres, but considering that journey is about 80% of my weekly driving, I'm pretty happy.

Bad news is it'll only get worse from here with tyres, lift, accessories etc haha...

                              • Currently at 17.4l/100. First tank since we've owned it. OUCH! Just city driving (It does have extractors though so I have given it the odd "encouragement" as it sounds awesome.)
