    • my latest fuel burn , NOT TOWING

      pretty happy with these numbers...

running shell 98.. filled it up and drove down the Hume to wagga ... 110k freeway
revs at 110 k/p/h , sitting on 2200 rpm .. air con on all the way with about 160kg's in the back of the wagon.. "not towing"

left wagga , on sealed back roads, up to the farm at Borawa , 100 k/p/hr revs at 2000 rpm

and back home again '''........ generally half freeway, half country tar country roads....

first tank switched over at 681 kays travelled... and returned home with a total distance travelled of 918 kays travelled.. and this much in the tank..

evan if i only get another 300 out of the 2nd tank the numbers would be 14.7 L / per 100km's

the burn on the first tank was 12.9 l /p / 100 ... so very happy here.. not often i travell without towing a load.. and that was on cruise control for most of the trip..

very pleasing numbers for me.. cheers butane.....

      K&N, 40mm lift , M/T' ATZ's , denso 'power plugs' , no winch, and 6 speed manual gearbox... 120 gxl '05 model
      ( 127,000 kays .. ish )

What light? Is there a low fuel light? I just did 850km and no sign of any lights.

so if you mean you've, got 850kays from your first tank , under the fuel comsumption thread. please en-lighten me on the set up for these numbers... you'd be be first to punch those numbers?

if the "diesel threads hear that you'll " you'll be drawn and quartered.... watching with interest , cheers butane , and try to be specific so ... we don't have to ask stupid questions please?

I have an ARB bar, 2" lift, snorkel and Bridgestone D694LT tyres @ 39psi.

I drove with a light foot most of the time. Still got palpitations and sweats every time I pulled into a servo!

I was confused by state50 saying this:

Knowing there is no way in hell he could mean the 90L light I wondered what light he was talking about.

yes.. first the 90L. green light .. then the low fuel light , which in this thread , should , by , previous posts, give you 30L left ....
hence the 150L added... which gave him his numbers....cheers butane

                  • Ok, thanks Butane - I've had the Prado over two years and have never seen this light, nor heard of it before!

                    • Sorry, I'll clarify. I did 1,080 km before the low fuel level light came on. The 90L was also on.

                        • Hi everyone. Thought I would add my latest figures to the thread.
My last post was showing figures of around 14 lph with a 2005 V6 with K&N filter factory bull bar and roof rack.
I have now covered around 20000 K's since purchasing the car and have monitored the fuel consumption working out how much fuel went in at fill up. (Always fill trying you use same pump. She'll 95).
I have recently added a scangauge and it is now within 1 or 2 litres accuracy.
Over the Xmas holidays I installed a Safari Snorkel mainly after reading an article regarding fuel consumption in a 4WD mag but also for its other benefits.
The latest figures I have now for fuel consumption in around 12.5 lph and I have noticed on longer journeys it has been below 12 showing 11.6 at its lowest.
When I bought the car I went for petrol over diesel as figures on the net indicated there was not a great deal of difference and I preferred the power rather than the economy. I knew it would be between 12 and 15 lph.
But if anything you can do to increase economy must be a good thing and it would be interesting to confirm it but I think there was a slight improvement in power after the snorkel but it might just be me.

I also plan to add extractors and have seen a thread on here that fuel economy may also improve with a noticeable improvement in power but after a rather expensive Xmas, landscaping and a new fridge I might have to wait a while.

                          Hope this helps.

                          Paul

                          • Hi All, not really a lead foot, wife accuses me of being a grandpa driver....
Get around 13.5/100 around town, and down to as low as 12/100 on the open road.
Mate has a new Bitsamissing Paj, had to fill up every 500k's on our 3,500k trip, to make sure he always had enough fuel, and it cost almost an extra $300, because of the inflated price of fuel in country towns
Got to love the 180ltr tank.
Did checks on fuel prices so I could pick the towns with lower fuel prices on the trip to fill up at.

Well, I'm still waiting to 'see the light'

Given the claim that the low fuel light comes on with 30L left in the tank I had thought that would equate to about a third of a tank once the 90L light comes on (assuming it is roughly linear) and I've been that low before but never 'seen the light'.

I've been running the tank down and the needle is now just on the Empty mark but still no sign of a low fuel light - does this mean my low fuel light isn't working or is it normal to get this low before the light comes on?
