  • Fuel Consumption V6 Engine

    Fuel consumption......

Im in the market for a new 120 prado and i just thought that a fuel consumption thread would help me make up my mind a little easier on which engine / transmission to go for.

So if i can ask anyone who owns a 120 prado to post up there fuel consumption figures , it would be appreciated.....

something along the lines of .......

    ENGINE...........

TRANSMISSION............... (if auto 4 or 5 speed?)

    TYRE SIZE......................

    ROOF RACKS ETC...........

ANYTHING WHICH MAY AFFECT FUEL FIGURES........

    HIGHWAY FUEL CONSUMPTION................

    CITY FUEL CONSUMPTION.......................

    thankyou....... 8)

There are poll which was run on lcool forum.
The fuel consumption ranges from around 12.5 l/per 100km for stock prado with about 14.5-15l per 100 average across the range (running on 91 unleaded) to about 18l per 100 on heavy moded / loaded cars...

The diesel is not much in front - whatever you save in fuel, you spend
in service costs (diesel service every 5k, petrol every 10k)

This should also be considered when buying petrol / diesel in my opinion.....
I have never owned a diesel so im not real up to date on the servicing costs ..........but i can imagine they would be dearer
(i could be wrong  )

      Thanks again stan

I decided to go with the 1GR-FE (petrol) for similar reasons. The engine is so advanced and uses latest technology, the fact that it moves a 2 ton vehicle quite spritely and uses a comparitively small amount of fuel is a minor miracle.

It all depends on how it's driven of course, I'm in no hurry to get to 100km/h (I don't drive like a grandad though!).

I'll post some figures when I get them.

Another positive with the Petrol engine (assuming you are not planning remote outback trips) is that you can convert it to LPG. Just done mine on Monday. Rear tank gets removed and replaced with LPG tank (68L usable), using Vaporised Gas Injection System, the fuel consumption and
power should be almost the same as on a Pertrol.

This sounds interesting..... , i was under the impression that the prado 120 v6 wasnt suitable for gas conversions (i must be thinking of the 90 series).
I have been hearing good reports on the vaporised injection system on other cars tho....

can you give us an idea of rough cost.... and where did you get this done.....
i thought the gas installers were months behind on orders.....

Both 90 and 120 series can be converted. Some people say that in a long
term the repairs will cost ya all the savings...

This is the link to the distributor:
              http://www.vags.net.au/Toyota-Prado-LPG.htm

They are not cheap, around $3800 fitted (including Flash Lube kit)...
I am still running on first tank, but I can't see any diffrence between petrol
and gas while driving... Still wating to see what is fuel consumption is going to be like.

I drove Brisbane to Sydney last weekend, fairly laden and with 1 adult & 2 kids, and not being careful at all with the right foot.

                956km's
                123 litres

                I make that 12.86l / 100kms

                  Fuel Type

Interesting to note that hte Toyota Manual on specs for the Prado details the Fuel with RON of 95+ should be used.

with the price rising of fuel, I think 91 might be the go !!
Premium and 98 RON are at a set level above standard fuel, usually 5 and 10 cents respectively.

Therefore Premium and 98 are a more attractive option now fuel prices are around $1.20, as the percentage extra spend is now much lower.

Personally I've been using higher octane fuel for years and I'm a convert. It might cost 6% more but I consistantly get 8-10% better mileage and not to mention the performance boost and cleaner running.

There's been a lot of discussion about 91v95v98 over the years on different forums. Higher octane isn't everyone's cuppa - each to their own.

BTW, my consumption has settled to about 13.28l/100km on 98 RON with my usual commute up and down the mountains everyday.

Just thought I'd post some numbers...

Overall (12877km) I've averaged 15.36l/100km. That's mostly city commuting and a bit of towing our camper and in-laws full van.

Now I have a Scangauge, I can amuse myself with trip stats... here's todays

                      To Airport:
                      11.5l/100km
                      5.9L used
                      51.3kms travelled
                      61kph average
                      106kph max (oops)

                      Back Home:
                      11.1l/100KM
                      5.7L used
                      51.1kms travelled
                      58kph average
108kph max (gee, must have been a bit of 110 freeway somewhere!)

not bad if I could avoid my usual stop'n'start trip to work!

On cruise @ 100kph, it was hovering around 9L/100km depending on the road gradient.

Pradogxlv6 I checked those figures and come up with 15.48lts per 100km
                        884/136.83=6.4605715 then 100/ 6.4605715=15.478.
Is that right, if it is just saved you some money.
                        Cheers Phil.

Fuel Consumption for D4D Auto, Jan 07 Build

I've kept very accurate records for my 3.0L D4D Auto since I took delivery in Feb. This is on 80% highway with air.

Travelled 10,700km since I've taken delivery and I'm averaging 9.1L/100KM. It will actually be better than this as the oddometer is out by 2%. (i.e. travel 5km and reads 4.9km).

                            Cheers

My car uses around 20liters per 100km (on LPG)...
Now if we do the math: 20l * $0.45 per liter = $9 per 100km or
                              Equivalent of 10l per 100km @ 90c per liter
