  • does anyone know if you can buy and install petrol fuel coolers??
they use them in heavy vehicle and common rail diesels but im guessing for safety reason maybe not in petrol.
I have also cleaned up my fuel economy a bit over the last week by changing the front pinion angles. the vibration I was getting out of the front end must of been labouring the engine also. even thought it was only at high speeds.
    what are your thoughts??

    • I know someone that's got one in a 300+kw track car, so in theory I'm sure you could, however I don't think the benefits would be noticeable at all.

left wagga , on sealed back roads, up to the farm at Borawa , 100 k/p/hr revs at 2000 rpm

and back home again '''........ generally half freeway, half country tar country roads....

first tank switched over at 681 kays travelled... and returned home with a total distance travelled of 918 kays travelled.. and this much in the tank..

evan if i only get another 300 out of the 2nd tank the numbers would be 14.7 L / per 100km's

the burn on the first tank was 12.9 l /p / 100 ... so very happy here.. not often i travell without towing a load.. and that was on cruise control for most of the trip..

very pleasing numbers for me.. cheers butane.....

        K&N, 40mm lift , M/T' ATZ's , denso 'power plugs' , no winch, and 6 speed manual gearbox... 120 gxl '05 model
        ( 127,000 kays .. ish )
Funny enough I have the same year model car as you and the exact same thing happened.

        2005 5 speed Auto GLX Petrol v6.

Driving from Campbelltown to Iluka NSW. First tank switched over on 681kms

        I have the following:

        -Everest Bullbar
-Driving lights (spotties plus 22 Inch LED bar mounted on bullbar)
        -Cooper AT 265,70,17
        -No lift

I want to get a lift first and foremost and seeing you have one and get the same kms. I should in theory too.
        So Im happy.

Im really tossing up about selling my v6 Auto so I can accessories a diesel because Im scared of the fuel consumption
going up when you do but some of you guys are getting decent fuel figures even with accessories and lift.

Also the v6 petrol 1grfe motor is too reliable compared to some Diesel stories I heard.
Might just stick with this v6 after all.

Anyway on the way back from Iluka. I averaged 12.6l/100km.

2 adults, 4 kids, full luggage and aircon on all the way

        • That is really good. Are you sure it was a 'good' reading - full tanks to full tanks. Around Sydney I'm amazed you would get these numbers, but good for you if you can maintain it. Are you mainly on roads where you can sit on 70k, without lights etc?

I do about 700km a week, mainly freeway sat on 110/115 range and getting numbers between 13 and 15. Standard 120 grande with roof bars which may have a very small impact. Using 95 or 98, never 91. Just driver and no load, with 3rd row seats removed.

It is very scary when you accelerate away from lights and the reading goes to 60l/100k or more. Thanks God for the downhill runs :-)

          • Yesterday I got 781kms before it switched over to 2nd tank, currently on 1020kms with half of the last tank to go.

            • I just went to Hallisdays Point (just out from Tuncurry) up and back, couple of runs on Blacksmith Beach (no sand dunes), no aircon on, not much of a load (only there for a night) speed limit all the way, and mine got to 697klms when it flicked over to second tank. I havnt refilled yet but Im guessing it would be around the 14L per 100...Will give figures when I refill on Wednesday. Either way Im happy with that....Cheers Steve

              • I have no extras on my 120 and recently on a 900 klm trip with just me and the wife in the car we got just over 11L per 100 but remember mine has no roof bars standard tyres and no lift.

                • have just installed the pacemakers and a new 2 1/2" system all the way to the back ( modified the cross over )

As per most of my mods I seem waist a bit of 98' ( fuel ) playing with the performance difference before I go
back to driving normally and reporting the fuel consumption , but hoping to lower that 14.7 / 100 which was my best open road mileage ,no load, no tow, just a road trip down the hume..

will post as soon as I work out the numbers ,
may take a couple of tanks just to get a average.. but evan around town i use less right foot now

( plan on recording some good numbers before i introduce the colder air via a snorkel )

which is next on the list
                  Cheers Butane

                  • Combination City/Freeway driving I get an average of 14.1l/100K's calculated manually.... Haven't done and not sure if I want to do the same calcs when towing the caravan or boat!

Trying to get away as much as we can with the 2003 GLX 120 Series Prado towing the Jayco Expanda or 5.3 Stacer Seamaster/Merc 90HP.
The Prado build up is in process

                      • I just realised I put this in the wrong section so copy and paste here:

I spotted fuel at 1.59.9 the other day. I reckon that's the lowest it will be for a while so I decided to fill it up. (2005 VX V6)
Having never had a vehicle with dual tanks, I was getting worried as it just kept going and going and the little spools kept counting higher and higher.

It finally stopped at 150litres and $240.00. eek!

I'm interested to see the range I will get. I'm hoping for something north of 1300kms.

Good luck, I'm trekking around the place getting only 700kms to 170L and that is costing me $360. Roof rack, muddies etc

                          • Sorry beach but no chance north of 1300 round town. Even sucking tank dry that would be 13.8L per 100 round town figures. I havnt heard of a 4L V6 managing those figures round town. A bit of both eg freeway an round town may come close. All freeway, then yes it's achievable.... Let us know when your having chest pains then we will know you have checked out your L per 100 next fill up lol.... Cheers Steve

                            • You could have humoured me for a while!

I'm already in trouble for spending that much in one hit, despite the fuel price jumping 15c per litre the next day.

I'm still yet to work out the figures from my last trip. She hasn't seen those receipts yet.

                              • Just added a roof rack, my latest is 1180 with 30L left in the tank, mostly highway, few trips into the city and a bunch of overtaking.

Unless adding all terrains makes it add a few L/100 I'll still be happy.
