  • Prado 150 mud flap upgrade

Hi guys, I have a 2010 Prado 150 and the rear mud flaps are rubbish and the you do a 2 inch lift and they become non existent. I noticed a facelift model today with better/ longer mud flaps and they looked original from the factory, if that's the case does anyone know if they would fit my 2010. Cheers all

Re: mudflaps that are fit for purpose on the original edition of the 150 Prado.
Thanks to this forum, and a partition, folks on this forum achieved a win for Prado owners, and Toyota earned lots of kudos, for replacing the short and next to useless mudflaps. I had a 2010 model GXL prado, and I had the rear mudflaps replaced with longer, "fit for purpose" mudflaps, at no cost. So yes, the longer mudflaps should fit, but they are more than just mudflaps, they are a moulded section that also extend under the rear quarter panel with a small section color matched section to suit the duco on the car. If you got the car from new you may be able to get them replaced, but I suspect it was only available to original owners while under warranty, who knows?
Anyway, the replacement was due to the efforts of some enthusiasts, I heard about it on Pradopoint, and Toyota came to the party...let us know how you go.

Toyota service centre in Brisbane Northside, looked at me like I had two heads. "We've never heard of a problem with the pre-2011 mudflaps, so no, we will not replace."
Genuine upgraded costs over $100 each side, so I made my own from Clarke Rubber.

        Should have gone longer.

You have got to try and speak with the head person in charge of the service section at a Toyota dealership, anyone else on the front counter at the service counter will tell you, with all good meaning no doubt, stuff that can very easily be wrong, and often is wrong..you need to speak to the experienced folk, and typically that's the head of the service section...and even then they need to have been around for at least 5 years or more.

I have been told all sorts of things over the counter over the past several years..."no need to change the auto fluid sir, the auto transmission is sealed for life" (rubbish), "the engine oil we use is like Kentucky fried chicken, it has 11 secret herbs and spices in it" (what an idiot), "yes sir we have rotated all your wheels" (and clearly hadn't)...."the tail shaft clunk is normal" (only to find out that it wasn't normal) and yes indeed, "no we don't change the mudflaps" ...only to ask the right person and find out that indeed they do change the mudflaps, and they did change the mudflaps, on my car and many others.

I had them changed under warranty on my 2009 Kakadu, just cited excessive chipping on the rear bumper. I was the 2nd owner but the Prado was just inside the original factory warranty period.

Yep mine were changed (front and back) as well but like fido it was during my warranty period. Toyota have acknowledged that the original flaps are not fit for purpose (excessive gravel rash). Speak with the service manager as per brogers advice.

Hey Simplesi, can you possibly take more photos of your handy work, they look great and I think I'll have a crack at making them myself. I just got off the phone with Toyota and they quoted me $150 per side. Cheers Dean

Not much else to show mate. Bought some rubber, made a template and cut the rubber. 2 clamps, drilled hole through original and new flaps, stainless steel bolt and locknut x 3.

                  Check the road rash!

Thanks for the pic, did you attach it to the back of the original mud flap?

I had the short mudflaps on my 2010 GXL. I only bought it a few months back so it's well and truly out of factory warranty (still under dealer warranty though).

Previous owner never took it offroad so I was surprised to see road rash starting after a few trips on the dirt. I found the PP thread on the longer mudflaps and phoned Toyota to ask about them. They phoned back the next day and said they'd replace mine for no charge because the car had such low k's, even though it's years outside the factory warranty.

Couldn't believe the customer service! I don't think the guy who phoned me back could believe they were doing it either

Give them a call though, it's worth a shot if it's a low K car.
