Hello all,
I am new to the forum and looking at purchasing a new 150 1GD. I currently have a GU Patrol and hoping to upgrade to the Prado. I have read with much interest about the dual battery setups and have a question that I am not sure has been covered. If I have missed it I do apologise but I am pretty sure I have read all of the dual battery threads.
My current setup is a Redarc SBI 212 with push button override. I also have a permanent 130w solar panel on the roof rack feeding the auxiliary battery. It seems to work well in the Patrol and I haven't had any issues.
My question is would this be effective with the 1GD? Would the current from the solar effect what the alternator output when running? I certainly think it would be great to top the battery up to 100%, something that seems to be an issue with the 1GD.
If possible I would prefer a VSR setup as opposed to DCDC. I link batteries for winching and if I need an emergency jumpstart it's just the flick of a switch. I haven't carried jumper leads for years. I am waiting for a response from Toyota as to whether they can modify the alternator output through the ECU. I know Ford can reprogram for Ranger, I am hoping Toyota will be able to do the same.
