  • New Injectors, EGR clean and service= improved fuel economy.

2009 150 GXL with 100k on the clock. Car has been running fine but getting a little thirsty lately, I put this down to the ongoing mods I've been adding such as Bigger BFG all terrains, Roof Rack, Awning.

I've had it 2 years, when I got it (70k) I was getting around high 10's to mid 11's (lph) running around town to work and similar on freeway. More recently that number has increased to high 12's to 13.

The injectors were original, but despite them seeming fine (one was reading high 2's feeback value, the others were 1.x) I decided to get them swapped and get the intake area cleaned out, and a service done at the same time.

First thing noticed after the work was slightly less rattle, it didn't rattle much before but it's quieter now. Then on the way home I reset the fuel usage readings to see if things had improved. First part of the trip was 80kmh zone with some lights every km or so, then about 10km of freeway. fuel reading was showing 9.7 lph after this. I reset the reading and The second part of my drive home is inner suburbs so mainly 50-60km zones with plenty of stop start for lights and traffic where I managaed 8.6 lph.

I assume I wont average this every day but I have not seen fuel use this low on this car with the mods ever so I am very pleased with the improvement. This weekend I'm going to be towing my 4mtr boat with camping gear and 1 passenger to Gippsland, last time I did that I averaged around 12 lph so see how it goes this time. Will update next week.

Sounds really good. It makes sense, new injectors and a clean intake.
Starting to get to that time for me. Sitting at 170k on the original injectors. Going to do a full intake clean out whilst doing it. Thinking of paying them to pull it apart and put it back together but do the cleaning myself hopefully saving some $ there.
How many hours did it take them to do the full job and did they take the intake apart?

I would be expecting some fuel economy improvements too after spending that sort of money..... but u won't know exactly how much better the economy will be until u run a few full tanks through it (recording your kms travelled vs litres used) and get some real fuel economy figures.....

will be very interested in hearing about what improvements u do end up getting.....

Steve, good to hear you finding the usual positive results of new denso injectors & related work.
Look forward to hearing trip fuel results. Have a nice trip!

Jimmy, I put a full day into that job.
Incl, Removed egr & elbow, not manifold, that would have made it 2 days. Not worth it.

        Cheers,

        ####.

####, sorry for the slow reply mate, I didn't see your reply until today when I was looking for a thread I created last week which looks to have been deleted by the mods (maybe:shock.

Fuel economy has improved slightly, not as much as it appeared to when I drove it home from your place after the work was done. That trip is a very light footed trip for me, lots of easy cruising compared to my normal driving around town and towing the boat. If I was to guess I'd say maybe 0.5 LPH better since the work.

Cars going beautifully and is almost due for service, I'll be in touch soon.
