  • Unistrut Channel Nuts

Does anyone know if the unistrut channel nuts work with Pioneer Platforms?
These can be picked up fairly cheap in every size one could need - would make adding accessories much simpler.

Or, can anyone give me the exact dimensions of a Rhino Channel nut so I can compare for myself?

To fit light items like quick fists as a shovel holder, the channel nuts are fine. For higher loads, they are not recommended as the planks are too thin.

So using them with eye bolts to tie down a swag etc...yay or nay?

        Yay if using cambuckle straps.
Nay if using ratchet straps to tie down heavy stuff.

          Thanks Andrew.

How does one attach their ratchet straps?

I've been surprised how hard it is to find knockoff Rhino platform channel nuts. http://www.rhinorack.com.au/products...bolt-kit_43106 $25 for 2 is obscene.

The only channel nuts on ebay seem to come from UK.

There are others... I sourced M8 channel nuts from SupaPeg for the fixings for TraxRax. I'm sure if you shopped around you could find the eye bolts to suit...

With eyebolts. But if it is just a swag, you can loop cambuckle straps under the crossbars in between the planks.

Thanks for the Links Tin. The dimensions on the channel nut listing will also help me check out the possibility of using Unistrut channel nuts.

You can definitely use the M10 and M8 unistrut channel nuts. Rhino even use them for some of their accessories. They are a bit loose and are fine for light duty items

I have some m8 ones and they are 19x35x6.5

The slots in the platform racks are 22mm wide x 11.5mm high and have an 11mm wide slot along the top.

M10 unistrut nuts from Australia if you are interested.

Surely you could go to a local engineering workshop and ask how many they would make for you for $50... 60x20x10 with M8 or M10 thread in the middle. Pretty sure 20x10 is a standard flat bar size. Or make them yourself.

That's my next option. Go and buy a piece of aluminium or stainless and make my own.

Ha, never thought the unistrut Spring nuts could be used for something else. Do note that the zinc plated ones do corrode easily in my experience ( as an electrician) though you can get them in hot dipped galv and stainless too. Caddy in another brand that make identical nuts. They're a little cheaper than Unistrut normally too.

The only thing that made me think about it is a project at work that I ran and the contractor used a fair bit of unistrut and the nuts stood out as something I might be able to use
