  • LSki's 2016 build Prado GXL

Picked up my 2016 built Prado GXL auto 2.5 weeks ago with tint, bonnet/headlight protectors and rubber floor mats.

Since then I have installed/fitted the following:
    ARB Deluxe colour coded bulbar
    Safari snorkel
    9in LED lights
    Tin's underbody protection
    Roadsafe tow points
Dual battery - 120AH AGM w/isolator and digital incabin display
    Uniden 8060S UHF
    Dobinson/Bilstein suspension lift (Zordo)
    BFG AT KO2 265/70 17 tyres
    Wynnum towbar
ARB onboard compressor (installed under passenger seat)

Still to go (within next 1-2 weeks):
Removal of 3rd row seating and installation of false floor with fridge slide, fuse block and multiple 12v sockets
    Diff/box breathers
    Alum roof rack w/ awning

Very impressed with the Prado thus far, particularly after the modifications. The suspension work has really made it a far nicer car to drive and sits almost exactly at the height I was after. Also impressed with the on-road performance of the BFG's, they are very quite, handle well and look good with the side bitters. Cant wait to get them off-road!

    Potential mods:
    Rock Amour steps/sliders
ARB rear diff lock (decision pending based on how it performs off-road)

Nice rig, do you get any flare back from the lights on the white bar?

Just finished removing the 3rd row seats and installing the false floor. Really happy with the way it turned out - looks almost factory and provides the added space that I was after. Removing the seats was a 15 min job, but it was a fairly tedious process cutting the templates and ply to suit the many different angles..

Managed to install a Baintech fuse block in the passenger side void which provides easy fuse access. In the same void I also installed 1x12v socket for my Waeco and 3x12v sockets on the other void for aux, all connected to the fuse block. Still contemplating the requirement to install fridge slides...

                  Hi Brilliant work.

Great you would have gained height, but would you have lost in width due to the sloping edges?

What width do you have now? See image

Along the floor side to side there would be slightly less (would have to measure), however front to back size increases due to removal of the chucky plastic piece before the door, and it also extends closer to the back of the 2nd row seats due to the seat angle and height.

It is the overall height gain that is the biggest advantage for me, it assists when Im transporting the mountain bike and for when I am trying to 'tetris in' my camping gear!

Sorry would if I could but my templates are in no condition to upload, I only used templates for the basic outline. I did allot of cutting/trimming of the ply to get it right ..

Yeah, its the fiddling trimming and repeated test-fitting that im not looking forward to!

Do what I did. Rule a centreline on the steel floor and run out at right angles every 100mm. Rule up a sheet of ply the same. Use cardboard sheet (craft stuff) to get the shape and mark match marks to the centre lines and cross lines. This is CAD (cardboard aided design) and CAM (cardboard aided manufacture). Take the cardboard template and line up the corresponding marks. Draw. Then come back 5mm to allow for carpet. This will give enough clearance to test fit before gluing on the carpet. Use a pencil or sharpie to confirm the shape on the ply. Trim and test fit. Slide a piece of carpet around the ply before gluing to make sure you have enough clearance. Then glue. Do this in a well ventilated area and let the volatiles boil off before fitting. For the little winglets same process but get your karma balance up first.

New Rock Armour side steps/sliders now fitted. Quite impressed with the quality, really like that they sit up high, I've actually achieved an additional 35mm clearance over the factory steps!
