  • Relocating USB port from centre console to glove box - Prado Kakadu

    Hi All,

I have recently installed a GME TX3345 UHF radio (inside the centre console) in my prado kakadu model. I currently have the radio jack left hanging on the side of the centre console which i didn't like it personally. Unfortunately Kakadu doesn't have any empty slots in the centre console to fix them.

One option i was considering was to move the USB from centre console somewhere else so that i can have the radio input in there (most convenient place i can think of). I would like to do something like this another PP'er done it in a GXL - http://www.pradopoint.com/attachment...6&d=1404080155

I saw another thread in PP about moving the USB port - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...e-or-Duplicate but i cannot move it to centre console since it doubles as a fridge.

I am considering moving the USB port to the glove box card holder and use that slot for radio input. Has anybody done similar thing? Any guidance will be appreciated.

My apologies if this question was posted before, but i couldn't find it anywhere..

    Thanks in advance

    Hi All,

Just a follow up post on this.

I managed to remove the card holder from the glove box. It was lot easier than i thought.

Now I am looking for a suitable USB to place in there.

NOTE: This USB input will basically connect to the existing USB socket so that entertainment system can still read from USB. I believe it can take USB from 2 different sources. It's more like USB hub with optional AUX input. Additional USB inputs will be handy for charging.

So far I found one option - http://www.ebay.com/itm/FLUSH-MOUNT-...316b16&vxp=mtr

but I prefer to have something with multiple usb inputs. Any body came across any suitable USB sockets?

    Any help will be appreciated

    Thanks
    Kams

I managed to get this done using a simple USB hub in the card holder. Now I can utilize the 2 USB sources to play music. Image attached of the final result. Not the best result but will do for now. AUX input is missing still, but I don't really use it.

I replaced the usb socket in center console with a UHF radio input socket.

Just a quick one - does anyone know if the wiring colours used in the existing USB cable in the centre console follow standard USB colour coding?
Eg. Red, White, Green Black? I need to do some cutting and splicing...

          Worked it out:
USB Standard Red to USB Toyota Red
USB Standard Black to USB Toyota Black
USB Standard Green to USB Toyota Brown
USB Standard White to USB Toyota Purple

Didn't find this ANYWHERE on the 'net. Went with the red and black as standard and trial and error with the green and white to brown and purple. Nothing blew up, so all good...

So, Joe Lightly, did you splice another usb cable into the existing, giving two, and if so, do they both work?

I just stuck the supplied microphone jack to the side of the center console with outdoor double-sided tape. I ran the cable up under the console and across to where my UHF box is installed under the glove box (hidden behind the plastic panel under the glove box). A lot less messing around and it hasn't moved.
