  • Additives to Prevent Fuel Injector Problems???

We recently bought a 2009 Land Cruiser Prado 120 Series Diesel. We did a lot of research for our next car and wanted one that wouldn't give us many problems aside from regular maintenance. We definitely feel we found what we were looking for in the Prado and found the common problem list to be very short, which we were extremely happy about.

One problem that came up often was the fuel injectors going bad and we wanted to see if anyone knew of a way to prevent that such as an additive? I don't know much about additives, or even cars in general, but I assume it would be added at fill ups to the diesel fuel. Is there anyone who knows of a specific brand or method they've had luck with? Appreciate the help.

    IMO

I don't believe there is an additive that you can add, that will save your injectors.
Some have had success with adding a small amount of 2 stroke oil.
At first I thought this was a bad idea, but don't have any evidence. I'm open to more results of this practise.
Do I do it? No. If there was no other option, I think I would be trialling it now.

There is an addition to your injectors to help prevent premature wear, DLC, only baileys do it where it counts.
Well worth doing for ALL d4d engines, to me it's not an option, google baileys diesel.com

Just to help you out: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...681#post476681 It's a growing thread but #2271-2277 relate to your topic.

1of the nutshells, CRD = no 2 stroke oil (brushcutter oil) but may have some merit for the old 1KZ. I don't think you can beat a billion dollar research industry...just my opinion!

Appreciate it. I'm not new to forums and the search function, but didn't find anything after about half an hour or more of searching. So I appreciate the help.

They had some good points and one of them was that most of the problems can be attributed to low quality diesel fuel and unfortunately, there is no way to tell how low of quality the diesel fuel is that we have in the Dominican Republic where I currently live. I fill up with low ultra low sulfur diesel, but that's about our only option where we live.

There is an injection additive from genuine Toyota it treats about 70lt of fuel and cost around $28 a bottle this will help as its been designed for injection issues.

So far so good for my D4D. Been using Chemtech Diese Power every time I fill up over the last 47,000 km with no noisy injectors.

Go on, you keep on reassuring yourself that Toyota has your interests and that of the longevity of your engine at heart with this product.

                  Hi all

I had to replace all the injectors about 1.5 years ago to the tune of $35000.00. Since then I use the liquimoly additive with each tank refill. Can't think of name off top of my head, but you add it in after a fill up. I think it is around $25.00 for the bottle and last 6-8 refills. I fill up every 4 weeks due to work schedule. Injectors happy for last 80000km

You could have bought a whole prado for $35k. You sure that was the cost of new injectors?????

I use CEM CRD Fuel Enhancer in my 08 Prado. Haven't been using it that long, but i'm hoping it helps, and makes me feel as though i am at least trying to prevent future problems.

                              Hi Guys

Just be aware of the fact that additives can be known to "Attack" the DLC coating and that some additives actually turn acidic (Dissolve metals) when mixed with H20!

                              Click link below!

Beware of Diesel Fuel Additives with DLC coated components

Is interesting how Denso are against additives!... Your Toyota owners manual is against additives!.... But Toyota dealership sells additives?....

                              Cheers
