  • TJM T13 Bullbar vibrating

Hi, last year we bought a 2003 GRJ120R GXL Prado which was fitted with the TJM T13 bull-bar as we live in remote NT we take it almost weekly off-road on various different tracks - some rough corrugations at times.

We have noticed the bull-bar vibrates alot - i'm aware of bull-bars vibrating due to the design but this seems to be more - just slightly off road and its noticeable. We have had our aerial snap, a spot light break off the mount as a result.

We have checked the bull-bar bolts and noticed they were loose and have tightened them abit which has made a difference - is their anything else we should look at? We want to ensure its not going to vibrate like it has been before we put a new set of spotlights or aerial on.

    Thanks

Everything u describe seems normal they seem lie they shake but they aren't, I am guessing the aerial u had was metal, if so this is also common as the break off at the base from the movement. The spot lights and aerials will break in harsh conditions.

Thanks, both breaks happened on reasonable tracks no corrugations and the aerial wasn't metal it snapped the whip part off above where it screwed onto the spring.

do you have a spring base for the aerial? I have had my GME AE409L - snap off twice just above half way.

Yeah I've got the same bar and it looks like it moves around quite a bit. It really is an optical illusion because the bar mounts to the chassis and the body is rubber mounted so they move indpendently. As far as the aerial goes you really need to fit an aerial designed for bullbar mounting like the GME AE4702, 3 or 5, These aerials dont have a weak point like the screw on ones.

Is it actually an optical illusion tho? I can hit my OL Steel bull bar and you can see it and feel it shake, not like loose bolts but still does, I tested this out the other day, hitting the bar with my hand and when fitting the new suspension I put my body weight (85kg) on the outer wing of the bull bar both sides and you can feel it..... Quite odd actually, I have looked everywhere on the Bullbar mounting points to see if I can see any rubber bushes etc to help it do this but I can't see any..

I am with you on this, my T13 bar looks like its shaking around on flat tar roads, banging the edge of the bar vibrates the whole bar and lights. Wonder if brush rails will stop it shaking?
