  • Insuring a camper trailer???

    Hi all

In a couple of weeks we pick up our new camper trailer - exciting times ahead. Just wonder if others insure their camper trailers, if so with whom and how expensive is the insurance?

    Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I use CIL Insurance. Not sure of the cost as not home to look it up but very nice people to deal with on the phone. About the only one I could find to insure a camper trailer.

We're with NRMA, no problem with insurance through them - not sure why VKPrado would suggest it's hard to find an insurer willing to take on a CT.....

I had mine with AAMI- they classify it under caravan insurance.

Ours is insured with RACQ, only put of discussion was that they wouldn't cover the contents above about $500. So we increased our outside the home part of our home contents insurance, to cover off the larger items, like generator, fridge etc.

I use DGA Insurance Brokers & they used CIL Insurance. $332.95 is the premium.

We tried AAMI as that is where all our other insurance policies are but they said they do not do camper trailers at all so it must depend on who you get on the phone.

Way2go- the reason I said that CIL was the only one I could find was we don't have NRMA here in Tasmania, but do have RACT but they don't do it either, and when we called other places they all suggested CIL.

We have ours insured with AAMI. The policy says "Caravan Insurance Schedule" the vehicle description says "Modern Trailer Custom built Camper" (note "Modern" is the brand of trailer). They had no problems insuring it and the person on the phone understood that it was a "tent on a trailer" Cost was $139 for an insured value of $7500

Insured my Complete Campsite camper trailer with CIL. Prado was with NRMA at the time - but CIL specialise in Caravans & Campers etc. and were better than NRMA.
As a matter of interest, after a lifetime with NRMA I have just switched to Allianz - identical cover in all aspects - Allianz much much cheaper, and better service. NRMA is no longer a "mutual" business that exists to serve it's members as it was many years ago...and I think that is reflected in how they deal with customers these days.

40 years of multiple cars, house, contents etrc etc and we just moved the cars to JustCars - way cheaper. Never had a claim on either so I've no idea what service as actually like when needed.
When I informed the NRMA lady on the phone, she simply said "oh dear".
