  • Extended warranty for the 150

I know this is covered over in the 120 series area here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ended+Warranty but I thought maybe we should start one under the 150 area.

I'm about half way through my normal 3yr warranty and with all the injector (and more serious problems) starting to surface I'm considering extending. I was advised (by my dealer) it was cheaper to do this with more than 12mths left on the existing factory 3yr.

    Has anybody asked this question?

I was quoted just under $2000 for a warranty as per the current 3yr in other words 6yrs 150000km. Any comments, good deal, not so good or what?

I have yet to check on servicing requirements (e.g. whether or not at toyota or the same dealer etc).

I took the extended warranty when I bought my car, cost $1500 and seems good value. Only need a minor failure and its paid for itself. There is no requirement for Toyota to service the car to keep the warranty.

I looked into this today, and am still waiting to hear back from Toyota. However, Swann Insurance are offering the following warranty extension periods with 100K and 200K options:

      Period - 100K / 200K
      1. +1yr - $675 / $915
      2. +2yr - $1,025 / $1,260
      3. +3yr - $1,360 / $1,610

Swann Insurance has a strong reputation as reflected in the comments from the same thread in the 120 section.

NOTE: I was told that these prices are RRP and you should do better if you negotiate with the dealer.

      Cheers,
      LFaR.

I wish I could have got the 200k option... I've got the 150k toyota warranty, which will last a whole 3 years.

                Krypto,

In the "All" category, did you look at Swann Insurance? Their PDS is very comprehensive. It would be useful to know if you see a major limitation there. There are several forum members who use Swann and have been happy with their claims. If there is a "major limitation" it would be helpful to share that info.

                Cheers,
                LFaR.

It sure is hard to be stealthful

Well, my lease is up early next year and with the long lead time of landing a 150, I soon need to make a decision between keeping the 120 or replacing it with a 150. I'm busily researching, getting quotes, considering how best to payout the lease on my car, etc. The number crunching is looking ok, so far. The tough part is accessorising to a budget since the lease company can only give total package pricing. It makes it painful to make informed decisions between some accessories.

Here in the UK some warranty companies (insurance) won't cover issues like sunroof components (as I have an LC4 - VX in Aus - I'm not 'bovered') but it seems no warranty outside of a Toyota warranty will give you quite as comprehensive cover - trying to match a manufacturers original warranty is tricky and expensive.

I've done a few searches tonight on the most popular UK warranty companies - and to be honest, all things considered, at £1,300 for a 2 year warranty - Toyota come out just a £100 more - and cover 'everything'. It seems a few quid is saved if you take it out just before the OEM 3 year warranty expires..... I would imagine the same applies in Aus.

I went with the Toyota extended warranty when I purchased the 120 and it was around $1500. Haven't had to use it yet. My theory is there may be other insurance companies offering a similar cover but I like having one throat to choke.

I had an extended cover through Swann Insurance on my last Prado & they covered everything that the new car warranty covered. I had a couple of claims on it without any problems at all.

This is what convinced me to take out another extended warranty with Swann on my current 150.

After all the injectors are big bikkies, are they not???

Still can't get my head around or believe the injector issue is a carry over from the 120 ...... surely not!

So how much difference is there price wise in your swan jobby compared to the Toyota option?
