  • Control arm bushes. Time for replacement

    Hi all,

I've read every thread I reckon on this subject! And still undecided lol

Prado 95 with 2 inch lift. Nolathane or OEM Toyota for replacement control arm bushes please? What are your thoughts?

I've read some that say nolathane is a harsh ride and that Toyota OEM being rubber are better for off-road. Is that what we still think please?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well first off I've never done a straight comparison of the two... but...

One of the benefits I see with aftermarket ones is that they can be replaced easier than OEM ones. However, I believe rubber is more suitable for off road vehicles because they'll flex more, whilst Poly is more suitable for sport cars. I've read/been told the super pro ones are the softer of the aftermarket options. I have a some super pros my desk here and I'm able to slightly squeeze them in my hands.

My preference is a combination of heim joints one end, and soft poly bushings on the other end. This allows huge flex without the down side of ripping bushings apart.

      Thank you for replying.

Unfortunately I'm told the sexy helm joints and the likes from total chaos etc require a cert over here in NZ which is a pain in the ass!

Looks like we do have a super pro dealer http://www.georgestock.co.nz/Stocks/...-BUSHES&cat=35
I can go and have a chat with them

Do you have any experience with these ones please? http://www.nolathane.com.au/do_segue...F1996-2%2F2003

SuperPro are the best Poly on the market & will last a long time in it without annoying squeaking.

So no one got anything good to say at all about the Nolathane option?

Or am I asking in the wrong section of the board? (This 90 series section seems a bit quiet)

Looks like I'll be going for OEMs

Depends on what you want to use the vehicle for. As said earlier, they are great for sports cars or vehicles carrying loads (put them in the back of the 4wd hilux at work to stop it chopping out rubbers). For flex or comfort rubber is best but does generally wear easier. I would use genuine rubbers in my 150 but I use it for touring and off-road.

I was looking for bushes for a custom off-road suspension I am building, I passed on the Nolathane bushes as they were hard as a rock, went the super pro as they seemed to be a bit more supple. I haven't had the suspension on the road so can't comment on performance on road.

              Cheers Andrew

Vehicle is mainly used off-road, gravel tracks, river beds, etc. Sounds like I'm discounting the nolathane option. Would be interesting to know what dura rating they are compared to rubber (which I think is about 60 dura??). I'll investigate the super pro versions...but rubber seems the way to go

Throw the new ones in the freezer for a few hours before pressing them in, they go in heaps easier

over the years in my shops weve fitted both but i prefer superpro bushes hands down, its what i would fit in my car... in saying that the genuine rubber bushes are fantastic

Went to see the local SuperPro stockist today. They were very helpful and price seems good too. They can supply uppers and lower replacement bushes which is good. They agreed that they were at the softer end of the poly range but still not quite as soft as OEM rubber. They reckoned they would last longer though.

The front lower control arm bushes come in two halves which is interesting.

Am very tempted with this option as you guys seem to rate them. Will get a comparison price with Toyota direct I reckon...

Cool, thx for the link. Aren't white line owned by the same company that owns Nolathane? Redranger or something like that? I may be mistaken but I thought I read somewhere...

you are correct Stu Whiteline are world wide and Nolathane is just in Australasian market.
Whiteline are a different to Nolathane apart of the color.
