  • Turbo oil leak 2012 D4D

Just been told by local mechanic I have a small oil leak around the turbo which is dripping down onto the under body protection and I need to take it back to Toyota.
It is still under warranty which is good.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes. Toyota initially cleaned the intercooler and asked me to drive for a week before bringing it back. They wanted to see if the leak was just from crank vapour coming out of the inlet housing or if the turbo shaft seal had failed. It was the shaft seal so they replaced the turbo. If it was just the inlet housing they would have resealed it.

I think I may this issue aswell. I noticed a bit of oil on the bottom of the turbo the other week. Should book it in to get checked.

Yeah was worried that they wouldn't cover it under warranty so I was shopping around for a rebuild or exchange turbo and got the price down to $1660 rebuilt and refitted.

Toyota service said my turbo had slight oil weep that needed to be watched at 60K. Same note at 70K and 80K services, still not leaking onto anything though. So lucky it is not leaking or unlucky that a weep has been noticed?

Sometimes the the recirculated oil vapours can build up & leak from intercooler or gasket.

                    Keep an eye on them.
