  • Underbody fuel filter

    G'day All,

Two questions for those in the know relating to 2009 150 series Prado turbo diesel (Kakadu):
We're going outback next week and currently collecting essential spares for the trip. I note there's a fuel filter underbody - should I take a spare one of these (in addition to an under bonnet filter) and if so can some one please advise how to release the hoses from the filter body. There are red/orange tags that look like a cover of sorts to access the hose clamps - do you lever them open or what!?
Further, I have read that radiator hoses are difficult to come by (having to be imported). I went to Repco (here in Orange, NSW) and they have ordered both top and bottom hoses to be delivered tomorrow morning.

    Cheers
    Simon

Lurker having both fuel filters saved the day for me when I put water.....yes I know....by mistake in the tank . Problem being that parts for Birdsville have to come from Adelaide or Brisbane and can take a week to get there. Cheers Ross

Toyota will mainly replace that under vehicle filter during servicing. That will be the one to get clogged

Don't take one just change it every 20k. Change up every 10k if you might be getting crap fuel.

          UNdo 2 x 10mm mount bracket bolts.
You can use a small screwdriver to easily & carefully release the orange clips, one side a mm at a time & they just slip back about 4-5mm & the hose will slide off.

In the days of old Holden & fords, you would take a radiator hose, these hoses won't let you down. You better off taking a starter motor and or an alternator. Not much else will stop you that could repair at roadside..

Had all the trouble in the world trying to get the underbody fuel filter off. Had to drop the fuel tank guard off and then undid the tailshaft at the rear end to get enough room to access it. The plastic clips would not budge even with WD40, eventually got them off by applying alot of pressure (a real lot) with a piece of flat metal from behind the clips (to their legs so to speak). They were just fastened shut with hardened dirt and I did high pressure hose down of the area the previous night.

Well worth the effort as gunked up with black rubbish and had a bad odour to it too after I cut it open to have a look inside.

Love your work, Thankx for sharing.

Yes it's a good idea, if its an offroader to wash down the area prior to the filter change.
That looks pretty old, how long since the last change?
              Look at that Filth.
