  • Under body fuel filter

My question is if you install a pre filter under the bonnet could you remove the one at the back and replace with a linking tube?
From what I can gather this is a pre filter that is only available from Toyota and the only one they replace regularly.
At varying prices around $100 it seems an aftermarket pre filter that is easily accessed would be a better setup.
Maybe I am wrong and someone can explain why.

I have an 07 120 D4D and just found out about the filter between the fuel tanks. If yours is the same you can get a Wesfil code wcf178 filter, cost me 24.95

I am looking for info about any tricks re changing these...

    Bruce.

      Thanks Bruce,
Checked out same unit in 150, ordered a couple from getcarbitz $19.80 plus postage.
I will have my mechanic mate change mine on his hoist save me trying to clamp off fuel hoses or getting covered in diesel.
Toyota couldn't pick a worst place to put it.
Doing it yourself I would be using a couple of fuel/brake hose clamps to stop the fuel spillage.

      Thanks again for info

After getting the Wesfil wcf178 filters I noticed that they didn't list being interchangeable with Toyota part # 23300-30410 only the 23300-30310 for the 120 Prado. Ryco just state that theirs are compatible with the Wesfil unit and fit 11/2009 onwards.
I contacted City Toyota and they explained the difference in the two parts, the one for the 150 has one pipe on more of an offset (not really an issue) and more important it has a higher flow rate that the previous filter on the 120.
As I can't get confirmation from aftermarket suppliers that the Ryco or Wesfil will match the genuine unit for flow rate I will pay Toyota's price just to be sure.
Hope my ramblings have been of some help.

Ryco filters are equal to or better than genuine.

            Morning all

Could anyone point me in the right direction to locating the filter.

Can't seem to find it. (Or maybe I am just getting old).

            Cheers

            Frank

New to Prado's, new to the forum.

I was told by my mechanic that the 150 series doesn't have the underbody fuel filter like the 120 series when I asked him to change it out the other week when I bought the vehicle. Can anyone please enlighten me if this is the case.

The 150 has one. It's black (like all Toyota filters) and is located between the 2 tanks. At $129.00 from Toyota go for a Ryco.

Looked at the hose plumbing from fuel tank to fuel tank on my 150 series manual diesel 2011 Prado GX, no under body fuel filter. Checked the Prado GX at work too with the same result.

Thanks fellas for letting me know that there is one there and where it is, I would never have found it.

Ryco Z780 fuel filter for the GX 150 series on sale in ebay for $20, Repco want $88 so I questioned the ebay dude over price and whether it was genuine, no reply but he then more than doubled his price the following day. Nice!
