  • Help: Injector readings - what do they mean?

In the past couple of months I noticed a rattling under load when the engine is cold.
Last Sunday I had a mate connecting a Techstream and checked the injectors.

The car has 59,000km on the clock, 2010 Diesel Kaka.

Cold measurement (1) Idle 860rpm Coolant 27 deg C, run time 19 sec

Warmer Idle 1200 (Idle up was pressed), coolant 48 deg C, runtime 407 sec

Cold (3) Idle 1200 (Idle up was pressed) coolant 12 deg C, run time 19 sec

    l]

cold (4) Idle 1200 (Idle up was pressed) Coolant 18 deg C, run time 51 sec

    Warmer (2) 1200rpm, runtime 605 sec, coolant 58 deg C

Can someone please help with a "diagnosis" and suggestion what to do next?

Overall diagnosis, injector 1 is on it's way out.

Once you hit the throttle or idle up then measurements are meaningless as the ECU has taken over. Looking at the initial cold reading of -1.9 suggests injector 1 is going out of spec, +/- 3 is the limit for out of spec. From memory blkd4d had the same diagnosis on his.

Thank you, D4D. Seems a replacement is due in the not too far future.
Any ideas how to take it up with Toyota, like stats or strategies?
The car is under extended factory warranty to March 2015. Injectors are not included unless they "are found to be defective in matierials or workmanship".
      Anyone can share their experience?

Your injector volume is too high as well which means all injectors should be replaced. That's what Toyota did with mine.

Below are some explanations on the injector readings, from http://www.newhilux.net/forum/viewto...16394&start=20

          Injection volume
The total amount of fuel being injected into the cylinders. Output is in cubic millimeters per stroke.

          Reference: 5-12 mm3/st (Idle)

          Injection Feedback value
The amount of compensation or correction of fuel being injected into cylinders 1 to 4. A positive value indicates fuel is being added, and a negative value means fuel is being reduced. Output is in cubic millimeters per stroke.

          Reference: +/- 3 mm3/st (Idle)

Sydney dude, if you can get the same reference page, but no idle up and only two readings. One about 2 minutes after start up, and when completely warm (is all that is required to give us a very good idea of condition).

                hi there,

                Those values appear perfectly Ok.
Keep an eye on these values periodically.

                Good luck

                          Caveat - this is a 120

Just ticked over 100,000 klms, readings were perfect at 80,000 klms. Looks like #4 is starting to be a problem.

After installing new Toyota injectors, my feedback readings are very similar to yours. The injection volume is much lower though. For some reason No4 was the worst before the injector change and is higher than the rest after the injector change. I'm not sure if No4 being different indicates something.
