  • buying a used suspension setup

Hey guys! Some of you may remember I snapped a strut on my 'Do. Well still haven't sorted it out and she just sits there in the driveway crying... Finally in a position to do something about it now.

I found a set of tough dog 40mm struts and springs for all four corners for $800 asking. They've done 35,000kms. Does this price seem a bit excessive? I know I can buy 2" lifts on eBay for between 500-800 some with toughdog struts and shocks.

Any thoughts? I'm not a serious off-roader but would like just a little extra clearance for some the dirt tracks we take.

Pass. You could spend that kind of money on a brand new parts.

Also - will you be paying someone to install it? The installation labour will cost just as much, which is wasted money on old suspension.

          Pm received.

          Tassie, was that with springs?

Glen, I'll be doing the work myself... Still think the same?

Please do the homework on the imported Billies before leaping.
As people on here will attest, whether you purchase from me or anyone else is of no worry to me, i just don't have a lot of faith in the US Bilstein stuff.

Hi Jason, I appreciate that... I was essentially asking about the springs because it seemed to cheap. Reality is... No time or patience for International parcels... Plus as a business owner I do prefer to shop Australian and to real businesses. Hence why I'll give you a buzz later Jason.

Given the rest of the suspension is 320,000km old.... what else can I expect to need replacing?

lol, I kinda figured that one but any in particular. I intend to inspect them all but if I know for sure that some are going to be shot before I get in there, then that'd be helpful.

Front upper & lower control arm bushes for sure.
                      Rear uppers pretty certainly too.
                      Panhard rod bushes too.

                      Regards, Jason.

The bushes in these prados are pretty good, there's none you should just replace. Replace them as it becomes necessary.

Yes you can get top quality suspension brands new for little more than $800. Old stuff is worn just like tyres & brakes. Go for new.

Rubber definitely. Better flex, better isolation.
