  • Catch can feedback

Cleaned out my catch can today and after 18 months it had about 10mm of oily crap in the can which means that the oil was not force fed thru my intercooler and back into my motor.

Well worth the dollars and time I say.

After 20,000k cleaned out my catch can and glads it's on as this is what was in it. Not much but still better than going through the inlet.

I have a Mann + Hummel Provent 200. Fits nicely up behind the airfilter.

I have one of these that fits in the same place. Had an alloy bracket made to suit and sleeves to increase the fittings to 17mm. 3000K towing at the moment and all is working fine, Cheers, Bob

Have to agree they are fantastic. I purchased mine from through Taipan XP for both my 4x4s. The VDJ150 is not to bad but my LC79 breaths very heavy and it is not uncommon to get over 300ml between services. Better going in the bin than back through the intake.

You can do a couple of things with the return off the bottom.
It can be tapped back into your sump above the oil line to drain straight back in with a one way valve on it.
The easiest thing to do though is to put approx 300mm of hose off the bottom with a ball cock tap or just a plug in it to drain it out whenever needed.

                      Regards, Jason.

                              Alan,
A catch can is used to trap oil residue in the crankcase ventilation system from entering the induction tract. On some engines with exhaust gas recirculation this oil mixes with particulate matter from the exhaust and forms a thick sludge eventually blocking or nearly blocking the intake. On earlier engines the egr valve can be blocked off (not legally though) and so a catch can isn't really necessary. On the later common rail engines (1KD for example) the egr is also used to lower boost pressure as these engines don't have a waste gate in the turbo, so you cannot block the egr without the engine ecu logging a fault code and putting the check engine light on.
