  • Vibration under load after 2"lift fitted .

    Hi Guys new here ,

I've just replaced the shot front springs and shocks in my 95 series and rears as well ,though they were already lifted .Go figure !!

It now has a vibration ,very fine through the whole car at 90 plus kph ,worst when its under load .

One cv boot started leaking grease so i'm thinking maybe inner cvs where maybe on the way out and change of angle with the lift has sent them over the edge !

Has anyone experienced this before ?

Was no sign of vibration with old shagged springs and shocks !

    Any suggestions ?

    Tony

If you lifted it the change in cv angle might have set it off...

It is not unknown for a lift to cause the CV boots to weep. Nip up the clamps or if thy are the crimp style put new clamps on. I doubt that is the cause of your vibration though. Usually a 2" lift changes the front driveshafts from going uphill to the hub to downhill at a very similar angle. The way you describe it sounds more like a slight wheel imbalance. Maybe a rear wheel was put on the front. Most cars are more sensitive to balance at the pointy end. I would get the wheels rebalanced before you get too carried away.

        Tony,

How much has the ride height changed? If you have had a significant change the drive shaft uni's will now be working at a different angle, if the uni's are old then the angle change means the uni internals are working (turning) on a slightly different section of the cross, this can cause vibrations.
What is the measurement from the bottom of the rim to the flare or guard if a GX model? Too much height will also create vibrations as well.

SO thanks for your replies .
What happened , I was 100% sure wheels where all in correct place checked everything over nothing wrong anywhere .Checked cvs and found slight excess movement in both inner joints .
Off to repco and buy 2 new shafts ,fit them and vibration is still there slightly .
Take the big green beast to Local tyre guys for wheel alignment and mention vibration ,ask them to check it out .
The inner joints in the new shafts have more movement than the originals .
Repco no problem supply another 2 new shafts and pay my tyre guys to fit them at zero cost to me .
I test drove this arvo and it is perfect .no vibration and rides beautiful thanks to springs and shocks and steers straight as an arrow thanks to my guys wheel alignment.
Finally its how I wanted it to be 3 weeks ago .
