My 150 D4D is now only driven on weekends so I was after any advice re the need for any fuel additive/conditioner as I've heard that diesel fuel goes off if left stagnant ?
Cheers Ross
I think the issue is leaving it for long periods with low fuel levels in the tank. Keep the tanks full and you should be OK. Some people like to add the diesel conditioner/cleaner which helps prevent algal build-up. Leaving it for a few days in between drives won't hurt. A work mate let his car sit for 3 or 4 months out in the lands and when he went on holidays his car died and was found to have clogged filters and growth in both tanks.

Bugger Bali, get out and see Australia before we sell it all to China.
My service mob always put a fuel conditioner in the car when they service it,
as they are a very well respected 4X4 service centre in Melbourne who all
actually do go off road with there own vehicles I would assume they think
its a good idea to use it. At arouind $20 every 6 months I'm not complaining and at
times car stands for months at a time and never had any filter issues.

I have been using Chemtech diesel additive for a while now. I have not noticed any changes or had any issues what so ever with it (10ml to 100L of diesel). I think it conditions your fuel and cleans your injectors, so hopefully it will assist in a more maintenance free engine when its out of warranty.
My GLX has only got 35000km in two years, so it doesn't get used too often. Its my wives shopping car and its lucky to travel 300km each week. I would like to get out and use it more but don't have the time. Its only 4x4 outing is to Moreton Island at the end of each year.

A few injector places I spoke to when scoping up my injector replacement suggested not to use additives in fuel due to the combustion residue they leave behind. A few suggested that at the correct dosage additives are fine however overdosing causes issues. Blended fuels (by the manufacturer) were advised as the way to go rather than DIY.
