  • Dull headlamp up grade?

      Hi Sean,
Ensure you are getting 12 volts to the lights and a good earth along with good quality globes.

HID needs to be self levelling and have head light cleaners to be legal in QLD and the other states are much the same I think. Fit HID and you could be stopped by the police and lightened in the back pocket by more than the conversion cost.

Just something to think about that's all.

I fitted 35w hid to my '08 120 headlights but after walking 200m down the road and walking back at all different angles, I took them straight back out. Apart from being an illegal retrofit, as stated many times here previously, they are simply a nuisance for ALL other drivers. The reason being, the area where the gas burns in the bulb is not as concentrated as a bulb filament and reflects off all the wrong surfaces.

Now I have the Philips plus 80% bulbs in. They are around $80/pair and well worth it imho. The concentrated beam has a very sharp cutoff and fantastic depth to the light compared to the factory or cheaper standard h4 bulbs. I got 30000kms out of a pair that run all the time (I drive with headlights on during the day) and I am constantly driving terrible corrugations as I work out of Fitzroy Crossing and visit the local and not so local communities regularly.

Have been using these for years in the prado as well as in my previous car (vt wagon)>A member of my club actually thought I had upgraded to hid when he was in front of me on a night drive once..

Also don't forget to adjust your headlamps as I found mine were pointing very low..high beam was where low beam should have been

Well, on the wife's Subaru Outback - had both low beams go at once (apparently pretty common) so I went for Narva BLUE PLUS 90

Pretty darn impressive, crisp white light and I'm sure that there is more "throw" from the low beams. I have not upgraded the high beams.

Once I stop cavitating cash on my Prado's D4D engine re-build (and get it back) this is something that I am going to do for it.

Lucky you. Mine only lasted 3 months and went back to standard which have been going for 4 years.

              Cheers Jim
