  • Anderson trailer plug

Ok I want to put an Anderson plug in my prado to charge the battery in the camper I already have an Anderson plug in the back of my prado for the fridge can I splice into the existing cable or should I run a new cable with new fuses ?

    Hi Russty-208,

As a general rule always run a separate circuit that is protected by a fuse or CB.

But the first question should be what is the anticipated load, or current draw, and how much cable will be needed?
This will then determine which cable size is required.

If you really want to splice into the existing wiring for your trailer, ensure the existing cable size is at least 1.25 times the required size to suit the new load. (ie both the trailer and the fridge).

Just remember that fuses and Circuit breakers protect cable, from failing under excessive current and causing a fire. This is why cable and fuse selection is so important.

    Good luck
