I was thinking it might be for a trailer break, as the trailer plug is like this:

That plug doesn't look standard, looks like an add on so it could be for anything. Can you trace the wires?

    Cheers Andrew

Agree, that it wouldn't be standard (plus it's in a damn awkward spot.)
Will have to trace it when I have some light.

Looking a bit closer I realize it has blue, black, red and white wires. Same colours as a brake controller, might have had one previously and been removed!

        Cheers Andrew

I also agree with all those above that it does look like the connection for a trailer brake. I take it that it didn't come with the vehicle?

as a bonus it will be easy to hook up a brake controller if you can find one with the same type of plug connection

Wasn't one with it VK, but I know the previous owner did tow stuff with it, so I was thinking that way.

very good point prado2004. will make for a bit easier install if / when I go that route.

I will have to have a look at the plug in my Prado when I get home as it had a brake controller when I bought the vehicle but don't need it so just unplugged it.

That plug is a generic one from jaycar or somewhere similar. My redarc brake controller didn't come with a plug, but I added one exactly like that.

                    Cheers Andrew
