  • Remote central locking stopped working

    Hi All,

Was up Sheepyard Flats area this weekend. Locked the car Saturday night remotely. On Sunday morning, nothing. Opened it with the key thinking flat battery but she started just fine. When I got back did a search and many said change the battery. Now this is odd as the spare was at home and it did not work either.

Changed the battery today and nothing. Have run the test light over all fuses I can find. The ones that didn't light I swapped out just to be sure.

Does anyone know why this would occur and more importantly how to fix? She is a 2004 120 series Grande 5 speed.

    Thanks in advance

Hi Hutch - not yet but it on the list of mods to put on! I was wondering if the control module on the car has died or something or a hidden fuse?

Does anyone know where the remote central locking receiver unit is located and/or pictures of it? Thanks in advance

Problem solved, and what an interesting problem to which I have no answer to how it happened.

After much reading on the internet (nothing) I turned to my service manual purchased on Ebay. This pointed me to the door control receiver location which if anyone is interested is in the rear pillar on the LHS next to the third row seat seat belt mechanism (behind the interior wall). It is green about the size of a cigarette packet. On the bottom was a plug with 4 torn wires of varying lengths connected to nothing. After looking everywhere for the broken wires - nothing! Then on closer inspection to the wiring loom that passes it, there are the ends of the 4 sheared off/torn/eaten wires flush with the loom. I should have taken photos but I was too hasty.

After an hour or so of soldering new wires and connectors on I was able to plug it in and voila - remote central locking is working again!

What has got me knackered is how the wires sheared off to begin with (not near any moving parts, nor near the road for rock damage etc) and more mysteriously where about 4 cm of wire times 4 disappeared too......?

Now if we had been 4wding and it suddenly stopped I would say that leg of the trip caused it, but I locked her up OK on the Saturday night, then Sunday morning - nothing. Maybe a random black hole materialised there (i like scifi!) or a wire eating animal got in there (no idea how or why), it has just got me confused.

If anyone has any ideas/theories on how, I would love to hear them!

Maybe a rat or a mouse got a bit hungry and decided to have a feed. I just hope the marsupial is gooone or the wife will be climbing the seats if it happens to stick its head out of the dash lol............Cheers Steve

I reckon vermin as well. A mate couldn't get his ute started a while back. Figured it was a flat battery as the engine wouldn't turn over or even energise the starter solenoid (he's an accountant ok so don't judge him on his mechanical/electrical prowess or lack thereof). So he bought another battery and fitted it. Still no go. He then swithced on the radio and lights and everything worked. So he called a mobile mechanic and a rat or similar had eaten a big chunk of his wiring.

Watching the wife jump up and almost dive out of a moving car would be gold! That was the only likely explanation. It must have been that night as there are no signs of habitation inside the panels. It is just an odd spot for them to go. The car lives in the garage at home, but might but some bait around and see what I get!
