  • Disabling auto-on headlights & parker lights

    Hi Guys
i need some help from the brains trust on Prado Point
my Prado is a 2007 GX upgrade
it come from a hertz as an ex rental that had all the safety stuff done
like top flashing lights, headlights on with ignition

i wanted to make the headlights operate like normal, so we found the little box that turned the lights straight on with ignition and removed it
now the lights come on with the switch but only the headlights, there are no parkers lt up when in the first position

they do also turn off when you remove the key ( without turning the lights off)
    any idea's???

also what do you need to take off to get the indicator stalk off

thanks for looking at my first post

First up, what is the brand and model of the Head Lights on unit? It should be either a Redarc KOLO12v or an Ionnic MS-LOR-12v.
Either way you can leave the unit installed and the headlamps will always work from the headlight switch (if it has been fitted correctly). Park lights front and rear should work normally too.
Let me know which model you have so I can look at the wiring diagram and help you take it out of circuit.
    Cheers,
    Justin.

there is no name brand on the box
it is Grey with a white female plug with 15 pins in it
next to it is a pair of little switches 1 & 2 with an arrow under the no 1 pointing down with "ON" under it
both are in the down position

i will see if i can work out how to post a pic of it

        when it was plugged in
i couldnt operate the lights in any way except for high beam on or off
yes the tail lights were on while the ignition was on
the prado is a D4D manual

when it was connected i could do nothing with the lights
they were just on as soon as you turned the key
the only thing i could do was use the high beam on & off
the tail lights went on with the key as well

Bummer, no brand makes it difficult. Has the grey box got anything written on it at all? If not, it will probably be some 'locally made' product by one of the many vehicle upfitting places trying to cash in on the mining boom $$. Posting a pic would be a great next step. Here is the info on one of the units I mentioned above: http://www.redarc.com.au/images/uplo...Sheet-A5-6.pdf

Check you haven't blown any fuses. Trace the aftermarket loom back to where it's connected into factory loom and cut aftermarket wiring out. If any factory wires have been cut and run through aftermarket control module re-join them. Double check fuses in car and in engine bay.

Well I have to say that I don't recognise the unit at all, and that I would suspect it may be a Chinese-made & imported product due to no labels at all. It is neither of the two models I mentioned above.
In a Prado (150) I believe you have to cut the factory park light wire between the switch and the rear parkers (but I am going from hazy memory so check). This should have been done just under the steering column near the switch so maybe look there for something cut and re-join it?
Sorry I can't be of any more help.
                  Good luck,
                  J.

I have the fitting/wiring instructions for a different unit to suit a 150 series - might also be of some help when you are trying to trace the wiring.
