  • SOLVED - Urgent Help!!! Issue with no Indicators, Climate Control or Reverse lights

Last night, I finished packing the camper and car as we are going away this arvo.
I hitch the camper, check lights etc, all good.
Move car from front lawn to out on the street, (easier to leave in the morning) and while reversing back, the reverse lights went out, along with the rear air cond, which was still on form earlier in the arvo.

Now, I have check engine light, and my indicators don't flash, but the lights work when locking the car.

Checked fuses etc... Anyone have any idea where to look, what to check, what it could be??

    PLEASE!!!

What happens when you disconnect the trailer electrics from the Prado?

I've seen a short in a trailer do weird things to a car before.

I'll check that shortly (no pun intended).
I am at work, with car and camper, so will test this soon, need coffee and get some work done first...

      Thanks D4D.

        Gidday MD,

First question is do you use a round plug for the camper? If the answer is 'yes', I think you may find that it's gone in the wrong way and shorted/blown a fuse. That's what happened to me a few months back. My symptoms were: camper brakes locked, stoplights U/S (mine's a GXL).

Turned out the cheap-arse socket I installed had a design fault, and the female part in it rotated ever so slightly, misaligning all the pins by one. (I have the 7 pin large). So when I plugged it in it was all over...... Thanks SuperCrap auto.

I had only 1 fuse blown, that being the one for the stoppies (in the engine bay). So I think I was lucky.

As soon as I got home I found a better quality alloy one at Repco and swapped it over. So far so good.

Hope your problem is as simple as mine was

That seems like an easy fix. But alas, I have the std 7 pin plat as std on the 120. The plug on the Jayco is std 7 pin flat too..

I might duck out now to have a look see.

OK, so I've unplugged the camper, and no change. I will get in and turn off the fridge in the camper, to be sure..
I'll run through all the fuses again, but I cannot see ANY fuse for climate control, rear aircon.
The blinkers don't work, but hazards do and so do the indicators when locking the car...

              OK, so here it is.

              It is fixed.

The reason, as far as I can tell, the camper PIN2 is wired for 12v on the fridge, which I have never used before, but did switch on last night, before moving the camper. As soon as it hit reverse, POP.
The fuse that blew was the IGN2 fuse under the dash, so if ever you loose front and rear air con, AND your indicators and the Check Engine light is lit, check the IGN2 10AMP fuse. Like that makes sense Toyota.....

              Happy days.

              Thank you PradoPointers.

Good to hear the problem has been solved. It has also enabled another piece of infromation to be shared which is always good.

That was the plan VK. I also asked the same question over on MySwag camping forum.

I just think it another stupid thing from Toyota that a fuse that controls Climate Control, indicators and reverse lights is called IGN2.

But learning is always good. Shame I didn't sleep last night thinking about having to take the Prado AND camper down to Toyota for some help...

                  Love forums, very helpful.

Maybe because those items runs off the ignition position on the key and not accessories. Plus there are only so many letters you can print on the fuse block diagram.

But now we know what to look for

Good find MDSimpson, I just finished replacing the trailer plug on my camper yesterday figuring it would be a 5 min job, you know, it's all colour coded.... well who ever wired up the camper just used what ever wire they had lying around by the looks because it was not standard trailer cable (Red/Black/Green/Yellow/Blue/Brown/White), I had 2 reds, 2 blacks, no blues..... aarrgghh!!

I had to trace it all back one by one and write down what the colour 'coding' was. In the mean time I have brakes shorting out, indicators coming on when I braked, yadda yadda. Fault finding electronics... a great way to waste a day

                            MLC....gold, pure gold....

Its great to be able to solve a simple problem that had potential to ruin an afternoon!!
I couldnt work out why my drivers window wouldnt work... I tried evrrything.
6 months later I found the fuse - Yep what an idiot.

The only thing that makes this informative thread a bit confusing is the title...
A reference to the IGN1fuse & the problems experienced would help people searching for a related problem in the future.

Other than that- a big thanks for the help!!!
                              Drew.
