I've been speaking to a few people about this lately, and I dont know if its just me, or if my D4D is down on power a little, or what it is. However I've been driving it a bit lately and noticed that it is very very difficult to get started doing hill starts on reasonably steep hills of late. The biggest problem appears to be the lack of torque at idle, meaning to get started I have to slip the clutch to get boost before the car will take off without stalling.
I dont know if the Prado is just a little down on power for some reason at the moment, or if its always been like this and I'm only noticing now. I'd be interested to see how many other people are having this problem. Once its on boost its fine, but the dead zone between 800 rpm idle (approx) and 1500-1800 rpm when boost is available, is horrendously sluggish.
A recent occasion this happened was with 6 Adults and 1 Child in the car, doing the xmas light runs in Sydney, and i had to switch to low range to do a hill start. This makes me wonder how people tow big vans in manuals with this problem??
Appreciate any feedback!
