  • Dodgy Ambient Temp Display

Does anyone have any insight as to what the story is with the ambient temp display in the console?

Where is the actual sensor for that located?

Mine is so ridiculously inaccurate its not funny, (as is the dodgy compass!) Id really like to replace the sensor and get it working if possible.

    Cheers
    Marc

As above, the sensor is located behind the front bumper bar..

The compass confuses me as often when i look across at it the arrow and line across the bottom of the letter is flashing... Any ideas what that's all about?

My compass flashes too every now and then but I ignore it as its so useless anyway.
Why it cant work off the sat nav?!?!?!

I have to do a service on it tomorrow so Ill have a look and see if I can find it.

Is the temp problem a common thing, is the sensor the problem?

The Temp sensor will sit behind your spotties Marc and that may affect its accuracy, I also think residual engine heat plays a big part too.

I think you can set the compass by driving in a figure 8 a couple of times to calibrate it again. (that what my nissan needed anyway!)
          Cheers

The temp is always really low for some reason, if it was high, that would make sense and it would be what Id expect as you say, but it never seems to get to more than maybe 10 degrees below ambient.
It was 35 here today, and it never got above 22.
I had a look in the owners book and it says to drive around in circles for a while to calibrate, not sure why, but I find that amusing!

My temp gauge seems to consistently show the 'apparent temp' that the bureau displays NOT the actual temp.
Fig 8 is mentioned in my book to re-set... I remember reading about the flashing but can't remember what it meant.

the 'feels like' temp show here... usually a couple of degrees hotter than the actual temp during the day.

Must say though I've never compared them at night or in cold weather.

                    I found the sensor, thanks.
So I did a few experiments, hairdryer and freezer and measured the resistance and response times.
So, the sensor seems to be working fine.
The display however, drops rapidly to follow suit but does not go back up.
According to the maual its good for -30 to 50 degrees.
I had it in my Ironman fridge and set it to -2, put it back in the car and it read -2.
Warmed it up gently with a hairdryer until it was nice and warm but the display still reads -2.

This evening I checked again and it still reads -2

Im pretty sure the sensor is ok, there is an issue with the display unit.

On a side note, my manual says to put it in reset mode and drive around in circles until the compass stops flashing

Checked this morning and the display still reads -2 degrees.

                      Tonight its reading 21 degrees!?!?!?!

                      See how it goes tomorrow

Im pleased to say that my temp gauge now works great (as does the compass after driving around in a few circles )
Response time is good and it seems to be doing the right thing and quite accurate.
Actually best its ever been !

No idea, the hair dryer, the fridge, fiddling with the connector, resetting the compass !!!!
                            Any of the above
