Wondering if anybody has worked out how to get the cig lighter out without removing the entire console. I want to replace it with a Baintech USB socket thingy like in the pic (pic is of a 100 series)

I don't believe you can. The tabs at the top of that section sit behind the centre dash. so you need to get the silver bits off first, then the centre dash. It's not a difficult job.
Just on the idea, here's what I did.
