OOmg, I bought a 2008 Grande one month ago and problems started when I took it to Toyota for its 150k service. Then the nav stuff in the radio locked up. So it went back to the dealer. They charged me $66 to reset it and get it working. next to go was the Climate control off button. Toyota had it all day today and had no luck. They told me it would cost me $2532 in parts not including labour to repair the air on off button. I now notice two of the windows can't be controlled from the drivers door switch. I am happy to pay to fix all this up and I will put new tyres and new brakes in it. I will then sell it an never buy another Toyota! I can't believe the things that go wrong with these cars. What has happened to Toyota? To repair the tailgate and all the electrics I won't have much change out of 8k. I believe cars should be more durable than this. My previous 100 series was a good car. But I have no confidence in the Prado at all.

I'll throw you some help on the window issue, insert your key and turn to accessories to get power to your windows, go to all your windows and from their control switch wind them down half way then back up all the way and continue holding the switch for 5 seconds. Your windows should now all function from the drivers control panel.

Now ease up on the Prado bashing please. 4ish years and 150k is plenty of time for a mistreated car to show some symptoms.

Hey Robbo792, you are a legend. You fixed my windows for me. I have ordered a second hand climate control thing from a wreckers and its only going to cost $550. Better than $2535 from Toyota. I also pulled everything apart and I found that the small rubber cusion switch is operating correctly. So that failure must be something deeper in the electronics. There are two pcbs joined by a small Mylar connecting strip. Its more like working on a laptop computer than a car. Anyway I am happy mine has failed and could not be repaired simply. The car still has the pre-delivery plastic over the air con display glass and there is no signs of moisture or dust. So its a mystery to me. Obviously Toyota have seen the fault before. The knew it would need a new unit.

I loaded up the car to go out and now the ignition key will not turn? What gives? I tried wiggling the steering wheel and holding my foot on the brake. Once again my Prado is off the road. I have never owned a car that has given me this many problems. Does anyone know why my Prado would no longer let me turn on the ignition?

Hi D4D , it does not look like its been for a swim. I got it all unlocked eventually. I just unlocked a few times with the remote key. Then got force full with the steering wheet and ignition key. When the aircon control board arrives. I will fix up everything that's wrong with it and though it back on car sales. So be warned everyone. If you see a black 2008 Grande D4D that looks too cheap just don't go there.

Hi all my air con control arrived from the wreckers in South Australia. They sent me the whole plastic console out of a gxl complete with the trims from either side, toyota CD player, clock display. So I was very happy. Good price to for all that. The air on control worked fine and I split it up so I could determine which PCB the fault was on. Surprisingly its not on the board that has the switches and the display. I could see no evidence of damage it the cause. It must be a dry solder joint or just a semiconductor gone fut. Oh well. Yesterday one of the vent duct directing handles fell off. I didn't touch it. Can anybody tell me how to pull the far left hand air con vent cover off the dash? I thought it would just unclip but I have used as much force as I dare and it won't budge. The rest of my car is working for the time being. I towed a boat away with us on holidays loaded with stuff my Prado ran great.

When I took the car for a drive, it turned out that the airconditioning compressor clutch was not being pulled in. So no cool air! Very strange as there was 12V being applied to the brown/yellow wire on pin 21 of the connector B on the climate control unit. Anyway I pulled it all apart again and tried a few more combinations and eventually got it all working. So finally my Climate Control will turn off and engage the air con compressor. The other parts are assembled. It will also turn on and off as normal but the clutch on the air-con compressor will not pul in. So I am happy to have the car working. Maybe the unit the wreckers sent was faulty in some way, or different. It had a slightly different part number, so between 2004 and 2008 they might have changed something to do with the way the compressor operates. I also eventually worked out how to get the far left hand air-con vent cover off the dash. The trick is to removed the woodgrain trim stip above the glove box. When the cover strip is removed it reveils a retaining screw. I used one of the spare vent directing handles that the wreckers had supplied extra. I am getting good at pulling it apart. I hope to have no more problems.

Guess What? My airconditioning has been working faultlessly since the 7/1/2013. But today I got in the car to drive down to the shops and my aircon will not turn off again! Arrrrg! Not Happy. Now I am upset. Can you imagine if I had have spent the $2500 Toyota wanted for the aircon control unit? Now I wish I had sold the car while everything was working. Has anyone had a similar problem with their Prado? For two units to fail in a similar manner there must be something in my car that is causing the failures. I am now the proud owner of two faulty Prado 120 dual zone climate control units. Can I get these units repaired?

Now the Navagation in my radio has locked up again and I am thinking that these two electrical faults are related. Maybe the Toyota audio system is some how causing the climate control to blow up. And maybe the climate control is causing the navigation to stop working. I wish I never bought this car. Does anybody have a standard Toyota 2008 Prado Grande audio system? Or maybe one of those after market ones might be the answer. I refuse to destroy another Climate Control unit until I get to the bottom of this fault. Toyota have not been very helpful in this matter.

A genuine Toyota map update solved this Navagation Lockup problem.

My Climate Control unit air-conditioning still will not turn off. But after the Toyota had serviced the car again they gave it back to me with the windows not working but the aircon turning off . It didn't last but because it works when the vehicle is reset (battery disconnected) there must be no electrical fault as such. Just some weird software glitch. It must be because of the later model Toyota navigation/CD player the previous owner fitted. I am not happy but sometimes we must accept these kind of issues. It just means I can't sell the car.. I could not dump this problem on some other poor bugger.

just wondering if you took it to say an auto electrician to get a 2nd opinion. Thats what i would have done. you cant always trust the dealers. sometimes it just easier for them to swap the whole unit out instead of trying to find the actual fault.

                              Cheers Joel
