  • Best auxiliary battery?

So I have fitted my 2nd battery tray and have the redarc isolator and wiring kit. I'm trying to find what the best auxiliary battery is?

I want it to last a long time, can start the car if needed and doesn't take heaps long to charge.

    Thanks

    Justin

I have been using supercharge allrounders as both cranking and aux batteries and have just changed the aux one out after 4 years of good service it has been giving me about 2.5 to 3 days use out of a Waeco CF80

Likewise, although mines only 12 months old.

The D4D doesn't like the Allrounder, I replaced mine with an Amp-Tech, also from Supercharge, and have had no problems.

Good to see you boys buying good batteries, I'm a little biased as I used to work at Sipercharge but they are good.

If you wan the ultimate then get an absorbed power AGM fully sealed deep cycle, the best you'll buy but they aren't cheap. I've just replaced the cranker in mine with an MFM70 which is an N70ZZ size marine maintenance free battery. I'm going to get an auxiliary battery too and I'm going to go with the D70Z 100ah deep cycle but not sealed, a fraction of the price but still very good.

Keen on getting a Full River 105 a/hr as my 2nd battery to sit on an Off Road Downunder Battery tray. I presently have an Optima as my cranking battery which is great and has also supported my Fridge for hours on end, but I'd like an AGM for my dual.

I thought AGM's weren't suitable for under bonnet!

Probably right Brains but according to Rogerthat who has recently installed one in his 150, Fullriver produce a heat guard for under bonnet installations for the DC105 that wraps around all four sides of it...

AGM are the only battery suitable for every application/location.

The valving inside an AGM allows the heat to exit from the battery.

Craig do you also heat wrap your optima Blue top under the bonnet as well?
Maybe put a portable thermometer on it to see what the actual temp is there. Lots of people talk about the heat but I havent seen much in the way of hard facts on the issue, yet.

Craig, just looked up those Fullriver battereis. Seem to have good capcity for the size.
My old 260mm Century ED50 deep cycle wet cell is only 65AH
The Fullriver 260mm Fullriver is 85AH for the AGM.
I saw these on special at about 20% off at Springers in June

I am limited to a 260mm battery in my ARB aux tray, so the fullriver seems like the go there and will replace my start battery with a D27M. Not keen on putting a battery befind the drivers headlight now with all the guard cracking stories.....

                        Cheers

thats what they all say, but a few of us have certainly proved that theory wrong, and I've had mine in 49 degree ambient air temperature over several days while drving outback, and no problem at all..honestly, so it may not be the big issuewe all thought it was.

I run a Odyssey PC1700 agm as a cranking battery, linked to a Lifeline 105Ah agm via a VSR (for an 80L Engel onboard). I have a second Odyssey to go in the camper (for lights and charging equipment, and a starter backup), but may swap it with the Lifeline to have matching batteries under the hood.
