  • Battery discharge 2003 Grande

    Fellow PP'ers,
My 2003 Grande has now chewed through yet another battery, which makes an average of one every 2 years.
Vehicle is stock standard electrically and whilst not driven daily, is driven regularly on highway runs of 200km or more at least twice monthly.
The last two batteries have been standard RACQ replacements and I've even taken on the advice of the last techie to remove the ignition key when parked at home, although I can't see what difference this would make. Makes me mad as my second vehicle which gets similar usage is a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe which is still on it's original battery!
Any and all suggestions on what the problem may be, and / or recommendations for a reliable battery replacement would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Drew

What is your charging voltage when the car is running? What is you battery voltage after the car has been sitting for a week. While you are at it check that your termnials to the battery are clean and nice and tight.
It maybe too low and that would prematurely cause failure.

Consider buying a ctek charger or eq and giving it a top up once a fortnight or so.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Thanks Guys for your replies.
It's a petrol Grande and batteries have always been replaced by RACQ with their advice on site by mobile service. (LeighW - unsure of calcium or not.)
maxjj - excellent advice which I will follow up on. My original post was really wanting to know whether there exists an inherent problem with the '03 Grande petrol - seems not to be the case, thankfully
Immediate problem solved with a jump start and battery replacement by RACQ under their 3 year warranty.
Best thing is that voltage didn't get so low or disconnected that reprogramming of any audio or security etc was not required. Kudos to the RACQ on the Sunshine Coast.
