  • Off Topic: LC100 Sahara AHC suspension alternative

    Hi all.
    I know this is off topic for the forum, but we have just completed a 1st time for us pretty big conversion on a 100 Series Sahara with the AHC Self Levelling Height Adjustable system in it.

    These cars are starting to hit the age where the AHC system is giving troubles & with repair quotes for owners sometimes topping $8,000.00 to $10,000.00 we decided it was time to look at alternates.

    It involved the complete removal of the old hydraulic system, except for wiring & installation of a conventional Spring & Shock setup.
    After some discussion with Auto Craft in Victoria who pioneered this conversion, we fitted 2 inch lift & a Diff Drop kit to it with Bilstein Long travel shocks & uprated torsion bars and springs.

    If you guys know anyone with one of these, there is light at the end of the tunnel for them.

    Big job with a great end result & a very happy owner.

      A mate at work has one of these and would be keen on knowing more..... What sort of $$ are u looking at and is it something that can be done up here in QLD or do u need to travel down to VIC to have it done??

        I only have some finished pics of this one. We are doing another one next week & i will photograph it in stages.
        There are a large amount of components we have to remove & i didn't have my camera with me this week for the one we did.

          Unfortunately, it would need to come to us or Auto-Craft to perform the work.
          We are based in Sydney & Auto-Craft is in Victoria.

          The job is a 2 day turnaround & cost of conversion is $3750.00 Drive in Drive out.
          This price is to perform a 2 inch conversion with a diff drop at the same time. Would be a little cheaper without the diff drop being required for the lift. Would cost approx $3350.00 if not doing a lift at the same time.

          With these it is Strongly recommended to fit a lower Control Arm brace kit whilst doing the conversion to strengthen up around where the Torsion bar goes into the arm. These are a huge weak spot & are very prone to cracking once better that the factory spaghetti Torsion Bars are fitted. Cost to do this including brace kit is $400.00

          ..... The only good news is that any old working bits that come off the car fetch good money 2nd hand, due to the cost of new replacement parts. The car we did this week only had 90k's on it & he could expect to see somewhere in the vicinity of $1000 to $2000 back for his old parts

              Yes we are fitting & welding the reinforcement kit to the arms as supplied to us by Auto-Craft.

                Hi again all.

                As promised, these are the pictures of the AHC Conversion on the 100 Series.

                These are the pictures from both vehicles we have done the conversion on so far.

                Since the pictures were done, the Light Silver car has since been back to have the Lower Control Arm bracing fitted.
                The Dark grey car owner didn't want it welded on.
                -The light car had a HD rear coil fitted & left here tail-up, but was going straight to get a Steel rear bar, long range tank & Drawers fitted.

                Fun job, but well worth the effort. Both cars drove great.

                  Had both of these cars back recently for their 1500km check overs & am happy to say that both customers heaped praise on the cars now.
