  • Carrying spare fuel filter

    Hi All,

I am putting some spares together for our next big trip and wondering whether it is worth carrying a spare fuel filter. Does anyone/everyone carry one?

Also, a lazy question however where is the filter located? I haven't traced the fuel lines yet so not sure.

    Cheers

    Dave

(PS There doesn't appear to be any info on this when I searched.)

I carry one of every kind of filter. Have the space so why not.

The between tank filter is in a pretty average location: above the rear drive shaft. It's a pain to get too.

The other one is obviously the 'water separator' under the bonnet.

And the third on is located between the two at the very bottom of the firewall. You'll need to remove bash plates and everything to get to it.

Wooley you are a bad person. Some people look up to you on this forum and all you do is lead them astray

When I said joke I actually meant that it's harder to get too than that. You also need to remove the carpet and trim to get to the two bolts in the cabin which are used to hold the filter bracket.

Well they might well have had a good look on the system.

I recall when Toyota parts interpreters were denying the existence of the second fuel filter in the 120.

Hi pradies, this is as good as my first post, Wooley is no different from the Toyota service department, telling me that they have to remove the rear tank to replace the second (sub) filter. "You must be F**n joking" was my appropriate response! That night I crawled unber my Prado to get evidence and sure enough, there it was as wooley pointed out in between the two tanks above the diff. So I took pictures back to them and asked why I would pay the extra hours labour to remove and install the tank.

What started this was my questioning why an 80K server was just under $1K. Ill cool the steam and make it sort. The more you know the better, the more you can do yourself ....etc!
