Gday.I have a 2003 Grande V6 its on LPG & has done 210000 faultless kays.I see via pradopoint that a local guy is selling brand new alternators for $385 .This seems a fair price. I am retiring soon & I would like to know that as I get older my costs are minimal .I ask any Auto guys if it is worthwhile purchasing the above and at my next service having it installed ? I intend to keep my prado for many years.I value opinions from logical informants. Cheers

Why replace something that is not broken? Surely that is increasing your spending rather than reducing?
Electrical components fail for a whole heap of reasons and whose to say that the existing alternator will not out last the engine?
Sure, no harm in having a spare ... But replacing a working one is just as expensive as replacing a broken one.2014 D4D 150 GXL Automatic - CHARCOAL

If you're retiring soon then you should help the economy and spend some of your retirement nest-egg on a new car. You'll feel good and you'll look good in a shiney new motor. 2003 almost puts your car at 10 years of age which could mean a lot of maintenance coming your way which could ruin that 'round Australia holiday pulling your other retirement present - that big off-road capable caravan. Live it up, bugger the kids. Spend their inheritance now.Dave

Bugger Bali, get out and see Australia before we sell it all to China.
