  • Side Step Lights

I thought some of you might be interested in this and some will think I'm crazy but I love it!

I was bored at home tonight as the other half was on a girls night do I wired up some lights under each of the side steps and one at the rear. I've been wanting to do it for ages but never had the time!!!

The two side steps are directly wired into the map lights so they basically work when the interior lights are on eg: pushing the remote to the car, or opening the door etc

The rear light is hooked up to the rear door light and works the same way. If the door is opened the ground light comes on.

I picked the warm LED lights instead of the cool white to match the interior lights and they put out enough light to see around the car when walking up to it in the night . My next project is to wire some inside the back on a switch to see more when camping.
I would of put a video up but not sure how to do that

How did you get the wire through the floor?

There is a few rubber plugs just next to the step. There is one that sits right under the front seats. When you take it out you can push the wire through and at the same time put your hand under the carpet (obviously removing the plastic trim ) and just pull it through. Then I took off the door seal and ran it up the top. Then with a wire coat hanger straightened out I fed the wire from the door side through to the map lights.

It really doesn't take that long to do. Once I had put everything back together I just ran some silicone in the rubber plug to make sure it is fully sealed. I only put the smallest hole in it and then bent it in half to squeeze the wire through so there really isn't much of a hole but just to be safe I put silicone on it.

As for the lights they aren't right on the bottom of the step because if you were to go 4x4ing and it was to scrape it would pull them off but there is a lip just underneath so the lights actually face towards the middle of the car instead of straight down! This way they are less likely to get ripped off and they still do what they are meant to. Personal choice really

I added some Narva LED white marker lights to the rear bumper and hard wired them into the reversing lights for some added light when reverse is engaged. I did the job while running the reversing sensors so it saved some time. I'll have to see match the step lights!

Good look there buddy. Just out of curiosity. You said they are rigged up to your map lights. Does that mean if your cruising down the road and decide to turn the map light on do the step lights turn on?
