  • Driving Lights and Overheating

    Hi,

I am considering driving lights, (round 175mm) to be front mounted on an ARB Delux steel bar, 120 series petrol Prado.

I am a little concerned about the possibility that the lights will interrupt airflow to the radiator and cause overheating issues. (I tow a medium offroad camper)

Anyone got any comments on the issues of overheating and driving lights ?

    Thanks

    Sean

Sean have a look through the My Rig Build section and you'll see a Myriad of Driving Light setups. A few with 3 lights mounted on the Bar with no "known" reports of overheating. I'm running 2 x IPF900's (200mm Dia) and a Winch Control Box in between them on my ARB Sahara Bar. We travelled Up to Winton last year with a Jayco Discovery (appros 1400kg)in tow with the temp gauge staying in the normal range the whole way.

        Hi Sean

I have a 120 Series GXL Auto with a ARB Deluxe Winch bar - no winch, that was fitted with Hella 4000s Driving lights and towed a 1400kgs Tvan on a 8000km road trip from Geelong to Townsville, via Wagga Wagga, Burke, Longreach, Cloncurry, Blackwater, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Dubbo and Home all with out a problem. Temp was normal at 75 deg the whole trip, despite the outside temp being between 30-36 deg last July / August.

I have now fitted Lightforce Genesis 210s with aftermarket HIDs internally mounted.

So you shouldn't have any problems

ARB bar and 3 rally's 4000's never had an issue with heat even on 45 degree days towing long distances.

              Thanks Guys.

I will fit the Lights and keep an eye on the engine temps with the ScanGauge.

              Cheers

              Sean
