  • New owners beware of first fuel filter overtight on mount

Just a note for new 150 TD owners that actually take the car off road and may have to tackle a fuel filter change on the side of the road. My truck had a slight miss in it, so I decided to change the new (5500km old) fuel filter out for a new one. Thankfully, the filter change sorted the slight miss and it's running sweet as..

I was alittle shocked when I tried to undo the float on the bottom of the filter, siezed solid from the factory. The same for the filter on the filter base. I ended up using a large shifter on the float housing (bloody carefully) and a Rigid filter strap on the filter to remove it. Seems that the factory turkeys like to fit these filters tight as hell, with zero lube on the o rings.

I sorted mine, but thought it might be worth knowing, if you have to tackle a filter on the side of the road, with very little tooling.

5,500km and a slight miss? Filter change fixed the problem? Maybe you should tell everyone where you buy your dirty fuel from so we can all avoid the joint.

Not sure Dave, got fuel on Brisbane south side at a BP, think that may have been the culprit. Running like a dream again now

Picked up my new SX last Thursday and the Service book does not have fuel filter replacements for the diesel, only a "Water sediment accumulator" inspection". This implies no regular change, but only if an inspection dictates. Is this right?

Yeah correct according to Toyota. I just changed it for fuel issues. they are a normal 20,000 km changeout item i think.

They change the between tank filters, but never the under bonnet filter: until the yellow light comes on on the dash.

You can pick each filter up for about $60. So not too expensive, or hard to change yourself every 10k.

Just a quick question about air in the system after doing the filter change. I used to do mine on the 1KZ motor and just crack the injector line to let air out of the lines after doing the filter change. With the high pressures the common rail runs at, what's the best and safest way of bleeding any accumulated air once you've changed the filter?
