  • Fuel consumption 150 V6

    Hi,

I am considering purchasing a new 2012 prado but not sure how good the fuel consumption is of the V6. I have a 2009 model and get about 14l /100km which is ok considering the ADR was 13.6l /100km. So if anyone has some real world figures for the current V6 202kw I would appreciate some feedback. The supposed ADR for the 202kw is 11.5l /100km.

    Regards

    Hi Cuda,

I have a V6 Kakado with around 4000km on the clock. I am a bit dissapointed with the Fuel Consumption. I get around 15l/100km around town per tank, around 12-13l/100 on the highway. Where those ADR figures come from is anyone's guess.

I have been running E10 in the first 4 Tanks. I will switch to 95 shortly and run that for a few tanks to see if i get any better economy. However, reading other posts, the difference is minimal.

    Cheers
    Kak

      Hi Cuda,
      I have 2010 Kakadu V6 with 55,000kms.

A)City driving in Sydney (traffic) and just school and shop runs ect (max 5kms) fuel anywhere from 15-18l/100kms depending on driving style. As soon as I do a few more kms around the city I average around 15.

      B) Trip from Sydney to Melbourne - 90% freeway sitting on 110kph and not much weight - me, a bag of clothes and set of golf clubs - averaged 11.8l/100km.

      C) Trip around Australia - car loaded Mum & Dad and 2 kids, pulling 2ton camper trailer often at 130kph fuel moved anywhere from 15-20l/100kms. Hihg speed was not too bad on fuel - Biggest influence was head winds, and of course extended hill climbs whihc were few and far between. Sitting on 100-110kph in flat outback areas fuel usage was 15l/100kms. Pushing hard 130kph into headwinds and fuel usage was 20-21l/100kms

      Hope this helps

        Hi,
We have a 2011 GXL V6 (2012 Spec) and although its a beautiful car to drive its no where near the suggested 11.5l /100km. We have only done 5000km in it so far but its currently sitting on an average of 14.03l /100 km. We tried running it on E10 but that pushed the fuel economy upto 16.2l / 100km, so now we use the suggested 95. Toyota should be shot for suggesting its more economical and more power as its just not true! The old 120 was much closer to the suggested ADR rating and only used cheaper 91 unleaded.
Is anyone running the V6 150 on 91 ? I'd be interested to know what the consumption/performance is like.

        Keb.

I am around 15-16 around town, average speed 36kph, in saying that I am lifted, bullbar, dual battery, bigger AT Tyres and don't drive like a grandad, on a fairly std highway run can get into the 12's. The car is not run in yet so plenty of room for improvement.

That is pretty good towing a trailer.

Remember a big killer of heavy four wheel drives' average fuel use is the lack of a decent average speed. The damn local roads around my place have so many different speed limits, I have trouble averaging above 50kph on most tanks of diesel.

                Approx 1400km on mine now.
8 trips to the city and back from Hoppers Crossing, a trip to Dalesford and a trip to Echuca and back. Computer is now showing 12.9 got no idea how they come up with the 11.5 figure?

                  Hi,
I have a arb bar, rock sliders (HEAVY), winch, 32's a/t, snorkel and 2inch lift and do 60km's a day (30ks of stop go traffic and 30ks 80km/h) and average around 14.5lts and on highway average around 13lts. 50,000ks on the prado now. I had a shop look at doing up extractors and a new "y" pipe to day to see what improvements I can get.
150 prado V6, yokies 32"s, bullbar, towbar, 2" lift, snorkel, diff breathers, e.r.p, winch, 14"s of lcd...hummm now what

I have yet to read a car test when the actual figures meet the ADR stated. My150 has done 40000 k's and we have all the gear, lift, 32" tyres, rear drawers with recovery gear kept full time, racks, ARB bar, winch dual batteries, driving lights, rod holders.

All contribute to poor economy, we get around the 12-13lts/100 as average. Throw in dirt roads, low range and camping gear and this goes to 16-17 lts/100. I have done trips with D4D's and they get around 10-15% better economy. I went for a drive with a PPer recently on his 150 with similar gear to ours and his combined reading was 12.1/100.

So happy with my 200 killerwasps for a 2 tonne tourer with all the kit

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

PS I have seen Hutch drive and I reckon he's doing well at his reading

Don't know my economy, and don't care.

If you can afford to buy a Prado, you can afford the petrol.

What a bunch of big girls!!!

As someone once commented on this forum, "drive it like you stole it." The ADR figures are not usually achievable for the average driver, unless you drive at a speed where the push bikes will overtake you.

Don't need another reputation, thank you Hutch. !!! Ha ha.

The ADR figures are usually unrealistic unless used to compare the cautious driver. I like to have a bit of power when needed, and the auto Prado gets moving along when compared to the 80 series manual I had. Even with the bar, 2nd battery, rear drawer unit, it still moves along, so I just fill up when necessary. Uses more fuel than the diesel, but then I have had nothing to do with diesels.

Not as fast as my brother's twin turbo Porsche by far, but he will spend $2,000 on a set of tyres for a weekend of racing, so the Prado fuel bill is not that bad.

I have been playing around with tyre pressures as well and if your willing to comprimise a little in the ride softness try running 45psi on road. I tried running 38psi, 40 and 45 and for such small changes in pressure it makes a difference in fuel consumption.

Just some interesting trivia. Comparing the Prado Petrol to the last of the XD Falcon V8. I think we are doing pretty good?

Petrol consumption in the Ford 21.6 Litres per 100 km vs 11.5 ............well maybe 13 litres for the Prado?
Power 202 kw for the Prado and 140kw for the 302 Windsor.
0-100 9.5 seconds for the Falcon and similar in the Prado (I pretty sure it is in the 9's).

So reading these figures I no complain?
