• Poor fuel economy

G'day I'm wondering if any one else has had
My experience my gx 150 diesel 2010 was consistently using 9.6-9.8 per 100k mix of city highway .at 30000k service i had recommended fuel treatment by Toyota done.since having this done it seem to jump to around 10.2 and is. Currently using 10.4 at 60000 ks . Of course Toyota says I'm imagining this . The Car is doing the same runs and has the. Same accessories .it was also noticeably better on fuel on a long run before this treatment . I really like this car and happy with how it performs (no need to chip)Its still probly reasonable economy but I feel it should be gettin better not worse , air cleaner appears to be clean any suggestions would. be appreciated I'm goin to try using Bp diesel Thanks

Just wondering..... Did they do the Auto-transmission Flash (ECU update) on the Auto in your car?? When mine was done, I noticed a increase in fuel usage... not much, but it did increase and that was with using BP Diesel too.
cheers..... Rob (macca)

Hey rob thanks for your reply , no mine is a Manuel it definatley was a noticeable increase though . This car has been serviced by Toyota from day one (probly not a good thing) they recommended this fuel treatment to keep it running nice , I would strongly recommend any one to think twice before having this done and I am concerned there may have. Been damage done allthough it still seems to run good Those figures I quoted were computer, actual real figures about .6 of a liter worse than that . Not sure where I go fro
Here with it , any way nice looking wagon u got there I'll post some of mine as soon as the missus works out how to do it regards dave

Tyre pressures? Have you changed where you purchase your diesel? Have you had the EGR Valve cleaned?

If you are running stock rubber, try them at 40psi. If the Prado is running light truck rubber, give 36psi a run.

I don't want to put a negative here but don't forget that these cars are running high performance 4 cyl diesels in over 2 tonne cars shaped like bricks.

Ask any honest mechanic and you will get the same answer the old adage of diesels running on the smell of an oily rag is gone. Also be prepared for longevity similar to petrol engines with running costs similar.

We should just enjoy the vehicles for the purpose we bought them and be less concerned about the running costs.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

I wouldnt be too concerned I have the same vehicle (TD manual). My daily commute if very heavy city traffic and get between 10.3 to 11 depending on how bad the traffic is, it concerned me initially but as Richoson mentioned its 2 tonne and mine has bull bar, winch, dual batteries etc. On the highway it can sit on around 9.5-9.7 depending on conditions. I just think back to my old petrol 90 series and 17-20L/100km makes the TD figures look great.

Enjoy

At 30,000 k'ms my car is running at 9.6 around town and when i go to Brisbane i can get 9.3 saying that when I go in the bush it goes up to 10.6 where i am using more of my right foot for the power, I always have my tyres at around 38psi and I drive with the eco green light on the dash most of the time to save the fuel.

I dont think there is too much difference in the snorkels. I went for the airtec purely based on looks, just a bit more in keeping with the150s shape. The advantage of the Safari is the ability to turn the intake around when driving in dusty conditions.

My manual always gets around 10L/100 for a city/highway tank always under 100km/h. On the highway it gets 12+ L/100 @115 km/h

Mine went from 10L/100 to 13.2L/100 over a period of time, but each jump was after a change (bull bar, lift, roof rack etc) and getting the exhaust fixed dropped it back to 12.4L/100. Any modifications over that time?
