  • Lacking Torque?

    G'day all

Just wanted to run something past you all to get an opinion or ideas!

    I have a 2004 T/D VX with 155K on the dash
I have had the car since 60k. It has been serviced every 10k as i plan on keeping it for a while (and slight ocd).
It has been chipped (DP) snorkle 265/70/17's, lift, bar and all the other crap that we tend to stick on our cars.
I have noticed over the past 12 months or so that it seems to be lacking a bit of power/torque when i get to a hill (great on the flats). and if i am towing my jetski (400kg) it really struggles up the hills.
For the SA people it will hold 90 up willunga hill, but if i have the jetski on i struggle to hold 70.
It does blow a bit of smoke over half pedal and for this reason i have turned the chip down to 3.
Have just cleaned the throttle body when the timing belt was changed at 150k and EGR was blocked off at 80k
Fuel wise its using around the 13.5 mark

Basically i just need some direction on what i should do....
    Dyno?
    Get injectors checked?
    Get the fuel pump checked?
    Deal with it?

    Thanks in advance

How bad was the carbon on the throttle body? If bad you may need to do the manifold.

I would pull the injectors and take them to a diesel reconditioner for testing. Replace as necessary. While they are out do a compression check (wet and dry). Road test.

Forget the dyno. As long as things are within service specs it will be fine.

      Cheers for the info Tassie
The carbon was pretty bad, probably about 3-4mm think and had massive chunks of crap in there as well.
I might do some searching and see if i can find someone willing to have a closer look
      Thanks again
