  • How to dismantle factory Toyota trailer plug

Ok guys, while holding back your laughter, what is the story with pulling apart the factory toyota 7pin round trailer plug?

I went to relocate the plug from the usual mounting spot hanging under the bumper bar to in the bar cover itself, so needed to separate the face of the plug and its main body to slip it through the back of the bracket and then pass through the back of the bar. I pulled the insulation tape off the back, slid the rubber cover away from the back of the plug body and there is no nut holding two halves together - it looks like one moulded piece. So I undo the small screw on the side of the plug which appears like a grub screw and start pulling on the end of the plug but the inside section wont come out!

How do you pull this thing apart??

Cheers....(retreats to house a beaten man)

You have to push the cable into the plug (not pull it), the connector then comes out the front. Remove the wires from the insert then pull the cable back through the plug.

Dont be embarrased flagg, I have wondered the same thing!

Luckily I didn't need to rewire the plug and traced back the source I was looking for!
      Cheers

I'm having trouble with my trailer plug. Does anyone know where it's wired to? Is there a harness? Or is it tapped into tail
        Lights?

Thanks Trekrider, the sidecutters were getting warmed up!

            Hi Brad

Yes there is a harness with a connector - follow the loom back under the car, it comes up into the space near the jack and LHR light.

Cheers (knows this because he was going to remove the whole bloody thing to relocate the plug!)

I know this has been mentioned plenty of times beforethe grommit that the cable runs through from to the jack compartment is easily dislodged so when you are finished just make sure it is still firmly set in place.
